So, do I complete the form or not? :

Yes I do live here but I also own my own home in the UK. So not sure what I should do.

Anyone know?

yes, you do have to complete it if you are counted as permanently resident in the UK (have house, pay bills, pay Council Tax, are registered with the GP, etc..) and the main occupier of the house... even if you weren't in your house on the night of the 27th March (so "on holiday"). So if you're out of the UK for less than 12 months at a time (so if you pop back and live in your house for Christmas and the summer, say) then you should complete it or risk the £1000 fine dropping through your door. If you have tenants, then they should be the ones to complete it. To do it online (which is easy) you need the code which is printed on the front of the form.

The first question is "who usually lives here" and there's a list including "people who are temporarily outside the UK for[u'> less than 12 months[/u'>"

It's addressed to "the occupier" and it says on the envelope "your census response is required by law". On the front cover of the form it says - Everyone should be included in the census- all people, households and overnight visitors. It is used to help plan and fund services for your community - services like transport, education and health. Please complete your census questionnaire on 27 March 2011, or as soon as possible afterwards. You can fill it in online or on paper.Taking part in the census is very important and it's also compulsory. You could face a fine if you don't participate or if you supply false information. Your personal information is protected ny law. Census information is kept confidential for 100 years. So help tomorrow take shape and be part of the 2011 Census.

The idea is to take a snapshot of where in the UK people were on the night of Sunday 27th March 2011. If you were not in the UK, either in your own home or elsewhere, you do not need to complete the census form yourself. Or that's what I thought till I read the article in full, but this: "If you are temporarily away from the country for less than 12 months, you should be counted on the questionnaire sent to the UK address where you usually live. If you do not have an address where you usually live, you will not be counted in the 2011 Census", changes things. I've not looked at the questionnaire but presumably you have to be filled in as the owner who is not there? Or, if there are tenants, they need to have completed it. If you're away for more than a year, then you don't have to fill it in, but if there's someone living there at present, they do have to fill it in. Does that make sense?
