I'm not having much lunch as a gardener ... the latest is my lovely purple flowering climber (no idea of the name, but has sort of ivy-like leaves) started to go yellow (having been healthy and happy for months) which I thought might have been over watering. On closer inspection I've found tiny reddish-brown almost dust-like bigs that don't appear to move, but they do. These are on a lot of the leaves, top and underside. With the help of google, I think these are aphids. I also found some bug thing that looked like white mold, but actually moved when I tried to wipe it off!!

I've just sprayed with a diluted vinegar/water solution, although I hear a mild soapy water solution could also do the trick. Should I get something stronger and can my lovely plant ever recover from this or do I need to get rid of it incase the blighters start sucking the life out of all my other plants??

I had the same problem with my creeper every year.Tried the tobacco water and it did help. Get rid of the old leaves and I also cut it back quite a bit.Grew back as good as new in no time. Keep a close watch next season and at the first sign of the little blighters give them a dose of tobacco sludge.

When this happens, you need to remove all of the effected areas in order for the plant to survive. The removed leaves will grow back! Good luck!

Aww... a wash that works for me is:- take tobacco out of an entire packet of ciggies + 4-5 tbsp turmeric powder soaked in 5 mugfuls of water over night.Next evening spray the plants with this concoction...it keeps all bugs away from plants and its organic.

It's a no. Well it was for me in this case. My lovely plant is dead :( Just hoping the leaves on my frangipani tree that are turning brown aren't all going to drop off, the ants stop coming in droves, my other plant starts flowering, and the birds stop insisting on nesting in my other lovely tree, THEN I might be able to enjoy my plants! I thought gardening was meant to be de-stressing ...!!:\:
