I know it isn't good but I have a few baking recipes that call for lard and haven't managed to find it in Dubai. Is there an alternative or has anyone seen lard in Dubai? Maybe I'm not looking in the right aisle!! TIA

After discussions with DH it seems it might be a "translation" thing. He is British and my recipe is Canadian. It seems that perhaps I'm looking for what Canadians/Americans call shortening. White, quite soft, sometimes has the brand name of crisco, used in baking. Crisco is available at Spinneys and Safest Way for sure. It's nearby the oils in Spinneys and by the baking goods at SW. I think I've seen it at Choitrams, too. Thank you ladies :)

it won't have the same taste but you can use a hard margarine in place of lard if it's for baking/pastry etc

I've seen goose fat in the P*rk section of the supermarket, not sure if they have lard.
