went past today and it is not flattened!!!! bizarre. Cant work out what we say the other day but the buildings are all still there.
Please ignore my mad post - I think the heat must have been getting to me. Must have been a mirage!!!!!
Will see you all at Global Village in November!!!!
LOL Thx for the update :)
I think its open from 1st Nov till Feb, seems like a long time, I thought it was just usually open for a month for the shopping fest? It will def not be the same inside, more like Dragon mart. I'm not that keen but visitors seem to like it.
Is it definitely going to be inside? From what I saw looks like it was outside again?
Our visitors love it too. Kids adore the fairground but have never bought any goods there myself.
Excuse typo below, meant 'were' not 'where'!

Drove past yesterday, and thought I would update this thread as I remembered there was some speculation about its future.
From what it looks like it is all being put back for opening. The rides where being built back up, you could see the carousel and the big wheel being re erected with the crane.
So for all the GV lovers it looks like it will be as it always has been. Outside and ready for winter opening :)
They're probably setting up for this year. Every year, the different country pavilions change their looks/theme. So taking down the old to put the new?
I believe the concrete structure next to the current GV was intended to replace it as a 'GV mall' type thing. No work's been done on it in years now though and there's no way it could be finished by this year.
I agree that turning GV into a mall will completely take away the loveliness of it. It's so nice to walk outside in the winter among all the different stalls. Wouldn't go if it was in a dull mall building personally
I also went past today and it does look like they have removed a lot of the building walls - there was still framework up though - perhaps they are rearranging it all? There were a lot of containers on site though which normally have all the rides etc in it.

there were loads of unfinished buildings there, so maybe they are clearing those and just having the temporary structures. I hope so as we have not managed to go. will plan on an early November visit!!!
I was just thinking about the addiction to A/C here and in southeast Asia. You need a winter coat to go anywhere indoors. It's not healthy. This is one thing that I really like about Uptown Mirdif. Now, many of their shops are closing down because people want to be in a huge airconditioned malls.
I really hope that it's getting shut down. They don't need a/c, it's only open from November to February, and in the evenings when it's cool. I was reallly looking forward to going this year, especially because a friend of mine is coming to vist. I also wanted to get another leather jacket and nice scarves at the Pakistan pavillion. Let's see what their web site says.
I agree, they don`t need a/c, it`s one of the very few places in Dubai where you can breathe some fresh air!
The main appeal of GV IMO was that it was out in the open, i really hope they dont make it like another non descript "exhibition" by having air conditioned stalls
Nothing like walking about in 15C drinking something hot or slurping on Hot Tom Yam soup !
And as GV was around 5 miles inland, it would alwasy be 3 degrees cooler here than in the coastal areas.

only got a quick glimpse but looked like the site was being cleared, rather than normal summer shut down. will be driving past again today so will try and get a good look but completely different than it normally looks when shut.
It only opens during the cooler weather - can't remember the exact time but I know it closes for the summer so maybe they've just taken away the tents, buildings etc for now. Didn't hear anything about it closing down for good.
HTH
Has it been closed down forever? Drove past yesterday and noticed all the buildings were gone! Anyone know if that is the end of Global Vilage - we never got around to going! Anyone know the plans for the site?
