no, never pay an agency to find you work... once they have your money, where's the incentive to lift a finger?! Recruitment agencies get paid commission by the company when they successfully place a candidate... and it's generally a nice commission, so no, don't pay them anything... not to find you work nor "convert your CV to Gulf style"

Not sure about legal aspect - err... if I'm looking for a job, may I not hire somebody to help? I'd recommend getting help in writing the CV more often tho :) However, even if it *is* legal, there is no use. I browse through monster regularly, looking for candidates. Recruiters are anyways searching very focused, specifying the exact search terms etc. Just make sure all relevant info is there, all fields filled. Nobody is just "looking for CV-s" :) :) :) A normal well placed search in monstergulf brings back anything between 10 - 80 resumes (depends greatly on required skills area). If you want to be up on the results list, just make sure all critical competencies are mentioned and update your resume each day - this is plenty to assure your "higher" position and visibility.

dipika, i had the same thing offered to me a while back, and frankly i didnt buy it. They bugged me till i was blue in the face with that offer..i suggest you call the proper authorities and double check this though.as far as ive heard its not really allowed here..their only excuse may be that they help re-write the CV hence the charges..but hiding potential employers, sounds a bit dodgy to me.

Never use an agency that asks the potential candidates to pay to help them find work It is actually illegal here. Most professional agencies will charge the client for recruiting the candidate. No money should ever be paid

Dear EW members. I have a very good friend of mine who has come over from the UK to move here with his family. He is here for 2 weeks and is spending all his day and time searching via recruitment agencies for a job in Dubai. He has today received a phonecall from a Krishna Penumarthi (KP) calling from Monstergulf. KP explained that he could be able to search for jobs that are not advertised through agencies, but that he is able to access records of. Howvever, there would be a fee of $149 in order for my friends CV to be put forward to these adverts. KP has promised that are jobs available suitable for his experience, that even we can search and apply for directly. This fee is to put forward the CV to the jobs out there suitable and then my friend would get calls from them. He did explain that this is not a gurantee but a good way of exposing his CV to the suitable companies. Has anyone ever had this experience and if so how does it really work? Could this be yet another scam or worse still, is it legal? You thoughts please.....
