Do NOT put a pillow in your baby's crib, especially if they are under 1 yr old. It increases the risk of crib death - there are numerous studies that prove this. http://www.webmd.com/parenting/baby/sleep-naps-12/sids-prevention If your child has a flat head, it will probably self-correct. But if you are concerned go to a doctor because they have special helmets that they mold to the shape of your baby's head. The correction takes a few months. Please do not put something in the bed that could suffocate your child.

Grandmothers in our family recommend puting a sack of lentils/chickpeas or what-have-you and letting the baby rest his/her head on it while sleeping. I totally agree with this advice. Also, I was so worried my DD had a weird shaped head as a new born and she still sort of does, but the flatness did round off over time - she gets it from my husband, luckily there's long hair to cover it now :D

my son had quite a bad flat head when he was around 3 months old- i brought the pillow from pottery barn but baby can only sleep on it when you are awakw and watching them i.e when in their pram/car seat. in the end we went to a chiropractor- Dr gary on al wasel road and it did make a difference. he is alomost 2 years old now and the top of his head is still fairly flat but nothing like it was- doctor said its nothing to be concered about.

My sisters now 6 year old son had this issue and she got a specific very soft helmet that he had to wear when sleeping. It solved the problem. I cannot remember the name of the helmet but if you google it something may come up. I will talk to her about it also and will come back with more info.

GattaMatta...do what feels right for you, but be assured there's a very good chance her near perfect head shape will return. (nobody is perfect ;) ) All three of mine developed flat spots at some point, and all have 'normal' shaped heads now. If you're really worried, have a chat to a good paed.

Maybe I am exaggerating, but I want to have a look at them. Actually her head is just slightly flattened in the lower back side, and it was so perfect when she was born! She is already starting to sleep with her head turned on one side or the other. Maybe I am just projecting on her my dislike for my own head shape, or maybe she just inherited my shape, anyway thanks for the info, I will check. Who knows, I might end up using the pillow myself pretending it will work ;-) Thanks everybody and goodnight for now.

If you cannot find it in the shops you could order it online thru Amazon. I got mine through www.lillakuddisbabypillows.co.uk and had it delivered in the UK as a friend was coming out here. Worth checking if they deliver to Dubai. I'm not sure if they made a difference or he is head got better naturally with time. He did also have some treatments with an Osteopath called Heidi who is regularly recommended on here.

Where in Dubai, please? i thought it's a myth about flat heads in babies... and i was told it is not safe to sleep with a pillow as well. It's not "a myth"...most babies self-correct their flattened heads as they get a bit older and start rolling around more at night. Some babies however do have a far more pronounced problem and a Dr may recommend earlier intervention. edited by Green-ish on 12/02/2012
