Hi guys,

My dogs absolutely love being out in the garden, but with it being so hot I've been looking to buy a dog house that I can either fit or comes with air conditioning.

I've searched and searched and can't find anything here (apart from either really small ones, or plastic ones which will get SO hot in the sun). The only option I have found is to order from abroad and have it sent here, but that works out very expensive.

Has anyone found good dog houses here?

Thanks

Hi Maya, It really really depends on what you want. You can go from either a classic dog house shape, to complicated shapes, to even having your house copied as a dog house :) I have a big dog and a small dog and have gone for classic style houses with sloping roofs. Will let you know what the final cost is. The best thing to do is call him. Or you can email him the style you want like I did, tell him the size of your dog and any specifics you want and he'll give you a quote: [email protected]

That sounds great! Can I ask how much he charges?

Thanks for that I'll try calling them tomorrow to compare prices and quality. So I went to go see this guy yesterday and I have to rave! I was very impressed. I'd done all my homework on understanding how to make wood dog safe and all the details necessary to make the entire house safe for the dog - and he'd already answered all my questions before I had a chance to ask! He actually started because he'd been looking for dog houses for his 3 dogs but no carpenters he found understand the process in treating the wood, not using toxic materials etc - so he built his own. Then his friends asked for one, then his friends friends and so on! He takes a lot of care in hand sanding each piece of wood and treating it. He uses high quality wood and dog-safe ac units which he installs himself. Even my husband who thinks he can build everything better than everyone was impressed. He was raised in the uk so it's very easy to communicate what you want. He even invites u over to watch him build :) He genuinely loves dogs and I fully trust that he makes the houses safely. He even explains how to introduce your dog to the new home so he feels comfortable and safe in it. Highly highly recommended.

Hi, sorry this has taken so long. We got our dog house made by a company called Handy Stores, tel 04 3400911, for the dog house which is large and has a sloping roof, flooring, and with fencing outside, one gate and 2 doors for the house, building on site, etc was 3800 dhs and the AC was bought seperately. We got it made in August 2005 so not sure if the company is still going but to be honest, the dog house is as good as new so well worth it, extremely well made and considering the heat and the rain sometimes, it has not aged at all. Would highly recommend this company to anyone considering it. HTH

Thanks for replying guys. I actually found a guy making them at his house in Dubai! :) He custom builds them himself, he does basic ones and fancy luxury ones. He also fits them with air conditioning. Yay! Saw some of his previous ones and they're perfect! Price was pretty decent too. Will let you know how mine turns out... His name is Elie How much did your guys custom made ones end up costing and what kind of sizes are they? Thanks again x edited by Dena H on 26/07/2012

We got one made for our dogs a few years back. My husband organised it. It is a large dog house, with a floor, sloping sealed ceiling and airconditioning. It has 2 doors, one that can be secured with a wooden lock and the other a sliding shutter which we actually keep open all the time but have some plastic cover which allows the dogs in and out but doesn't let the AC go out. They then have a fence round another area so we can put them away but not inside, IYKWIM. They are outside all the time in the rest of our garden and wander freely in and out during the day, they do not come into the house often at all. At night they sleep either in the house or within the fenced area. I think it was the contractor who makes sheds for Ace we used but I will try and find the receipt or details from my husband and get back to you. Ace were expensive so he mastered the art of upside down reading and took the details and contacted the supplier direct which made it much cheaper and fitted our specs perfectly! edited by Noddy2 on 25/07/2012
