Good afternoon Ladies, I wonder if anyone has any advice about the barriers in jlt. We rent a two bed and are told can only have one access card for parking! What do you do about the second car? Has anyone else had this problem? What have you don't? My DH was told to contact DMCC and pay 5000 for a yearly parking! Now that is expensive! I hope someone can help us. Thanks in advance

We are in cluster Q and upon asking our security guards he gave us the number for the company that take care of the maintenance and parking and they informed us that we only have to pay a one off 500 dirhams and we would get another key. Find out what company your building uses and they should be able to sort this for you. :) This just goes to show it depends on who you talk to. We're also in cluster Q and when we picked up our gate fob, enquired about getting another and they said that you cannot buy another fob, you have to buy another parking space to get an additional fob (at a cost of 5k for DMCC or more (8k I think) for another directly under our building). That being said, whenever I look out of our balcony down to the ground below (which is quite often as I smoke, sorry), there are always spare 'free' spaces dotted around in the sections that don't have barriers.

Thank you very much for your replies Ladies - we moved to JLT as opposed to Marina as there seemed to be amble parking in the clusters and never had any probs finding a space! As you all have said its practically empty, yet we cannot park! Amelia: 1000 one off fee! Would gladly pay that lol, Lancashire Lass: we r in cluster C so a bit far out, but thanks. I will just have to wait and see what happens! DH went to ask management again n was told ' all the spaces are allocated' ??? DH said but the car park is practically empty! To which he got the same reply - no free spaces!

We use a dentist on JLT. DH went a few days ago and barriers have now been put across all the car parks at his building. There are lots of other businesses within the same tower so where are their clients supposed to park? Seems a totally ridiculous situation to me. edited by amelia on 16/07/2013

We left JLT because of the parking fiasco Our cluster had 200+ spaces permanently empty, yet no one is allowed to park in them. We were given a spot that required taking 2 lifts and walking ~200 yards, though we passed through 100+ spots that were unallocated. Visitors cant stay more than 2 hours and our mgmt said "if you want to meet people for more than 2 hours you can always meet in a bar or restaurant". And making friends with building security wont work as there is centralized security guys who come at 1 or 2 am and go through every spot and if your car is parked even 1 spot to the left, you will get a warning. When you have 200 cars parked in an area with 400+ spots, it seems pedantic and nonsensical to restrict parking as if there is a severe shortage. JLT was one of the few new developments where plenty of parking was built . However the thinking seems to be (I may be wrong), "why should life be so easy for tenants? Lets create some policies that makes parking as difficult as other areas of Dubai" edited by Arch on 16/07/2013 edited by Arch on 16/07/2013

We have a 2 bed. in JBR and as such are entitled to one parking space with it. However, when we first moved in, there were spare spaces in our sector so there was no problem with parking a second car. When controlled barriers were introduced about two years ago, we were able to pay a one off fee of 1,000 for another entry fob to bring our second car in and haven't been asked for anything since. What a nice management company we have!! edited by amelia on 16/07/2013

Ask your building security if they know of tenants who don't have cars...might be worth making friends with them. Predict there will be a mass exodus of people once their leases are up.. let's face it most people moved to JLT because of the ease of parking and availability of spaces. Now it's a nightmare I can't visit my friend there any more due to no spaces (there are supposed to be 2 hour parking spots on the main level but getting one of these is rarer than hen's teeth) cars are jamming up the ramps, car horns tooting at all hours and unable to even get near the main entrance of the buildings in a taxi. R.I.P. JLT

you could also try checking community FB groups/forums/Dubizzle to see if anyone is renting out a spare space.

That policy is fairly common from what I understand. When we were looking at moving to JBR, it was standard for 1- or 2-bed apartments to have one assigned parking space, 3-bed apartments had two. It's all about making money, after all. The only choice you have is to pay what it costs for an extra space, or find somewhere you can leave your second car for free - and I doubt that there are many places in JLT that offer 24/7/365 free parking. BTW, 5000 AED per year is only 92 AED per week, which is quite reasonable really. You can pay much more than that for an extra parking space in some apartment buildings. edited by Madge_Gustard on 16/07/2013
