Hi Ladies,

So how do you do it? My DS gets bored and I feel guilty when I just leave him in front of the TV for long, but carrying him around all day long isn't an easy task neither!

Hi Spiritedaway I've used a Baby Bjorn Bouncer chair with all my babies and it's been great, I just carry it around the house to whatever room I'm doing something in - normally the kitchen! I often put music on and sing and dance, babies are a very appreciative audience which is nice :) Floor time is also good for babies so to change things up I regularly move them from the bouncer to a mat on the floor to have a bit of a kick and practice rolling with some tummy time too. There is totally no need for TV at that age, your baby is far more interested in you and will learn much more watching you than they will from a TV. With the weather so lovely it's perfect for walks with the buggy too. i could not live without our babybjorn chair! i also carry it around the house :)

a month old baby already wants to play and been curious to anything surrounds them. Maybe you can open the Television and play the barney or elmos world (sesame street). baby wants to hear sounds like laughing and giggling. also, let her stay in her crib and place a soft toys that can be squeeze and makes sounds.

My DD is five months old. I put her on her play mat with baby gym for a while. When she gets bored I put her on her sing and swing. I sit with her and play together with her rattle, keys etc. I sing rhymes and read books too. She also loves having some chewing time with her teether/ washed clothes. But after all this if she still gets bored we take her out in the evening.

I agree it's a bit early for TV as a babysitter except in emergency situations. Is your baby crawling yet? If so you might like to invest in a playpen, otherwise try and give lots of floor time, with sensory objects within reach (crinkly things, a water bottle filled with sand, a water bottle filled with water, a mirror etc) that your baby can play with. I would assess what you actually NEED to do around the house, and do the bare minimum, better an untidy house and a happy stimulated baby. I also used to put my baby in the highchair in the kitchen when I was cooking and give him little bits and pieces to play with on the tray, or some pots and pans on the floor. And with a smaller baby, sometimes I would set the pram up so I could push it around the house to keep my baby close by. Some babies do have more need to be held the others, in which case a sling/carrier could be useful.

OP why do you open TV for a baby? Did you try activity mats, ? or just use a bouncy chair and put LO there to see what is happening around :)

I used to simply place my babies where they could see what I was doing. I'd sing and chatter away to them as I ironed or cooked or whatever and always had music playing in the background. I had a bouncy cradle and one of these sling things that you clipped onto a door frame. They bobbed about for ages quite happily. Don't stress about constantly entertaining your baby. You are the centre of his world at the moment so enjoy him and soak up all the smiles and baby chatter. He'll be grown before you know it. :)
