Hi Ladies, I just found out I'm pregnant! And now I'm confused. I just made an appointment with Mediclinic's Dr. Jennifer Kasirsky, would you guys have any feedback about her? She will only see me on sept. 8, and thats too far away (i will be almost 7 weeks that time). I'm currently on 4 weeks now, is that too late to see a doctor? I wanted to keep my options, please recommend other good/sincere ob you know specially in mediclinic/welcare/saudi german and al zahra hospital. Thanks!

Hi Zoey Jane Congratulations! As its come up, I thought I'd mention that you absolutely don't need a blood test to confirm your pregnancy. False positives are extremely rare in home pregnancy tests so that is all the confirmation you need. Unless you have complications a blood test is totally unnecessary (but chargeable and therefore popular with doctors....). Correct, however a home test will not tell how approximately how far gone you are I found this quite handy. http://www.convertalot.com/pregnancy_calculator.html

When I was pregnant last year, I could not get an immediate appointment with the doctor I wanted so I got an appointment at the nearest Mediclinic and had the Gynaec order an HCG test to confirm my pregnancy. She gave me my initial prescriptions and then I later transferred to my doctor, who was also in the same chain of hospitals.

I am assuming you have already seen a Dr who has given you a blood test to confirm that you are 4 weeks pregnant (or you wouldn't know you are 4 weeks pregnant) so they should have given you a prescription for folic acid and for pregnacare so you can claim them back on the insurance. if they did not advice this, go see another Dr. If it makes no difference as you do not have insurance to cover these costs then go and buy them and take immediately Congratulations and don't panic - there is no reason to see a specialist until, like the others have said, there is a reason. There is no heartbeat or anything yet and nothing to see. I know the frustration, I knew I was pregnant the week I fell pregnant on holiday, had to wait 2 weeks for the blood test to confirm that I was around 3 weeks pregnant then waited over a month to check the heartbeat!

Yes, definitely take a good prenatal vitamin with folic acid! I don't know that brand - but if it's for ttc I assume it would also have the necessary components of a prenatal vitamin? I always took Rainbow Light brand - not sure if it's available here.

Hi zoey, I just had a c sec with Dr. jennifer 5 weeks ago. She is quiet but she knows her stuff and she is so experienced i would highly recommend her. I had a c sec in city before with another Dr. And I was hesitant to change but I am so happy I found Dr.Jennifer. Smooth, confident, fast, good is what I would say she is. City is a good place but I have heard good things about al Zahra also. I went to city at 7 weeks and the Dr.s had a giggle as it is early to go to a Dr. 8 weeks is the norm i have heard. Good luck

Dr Jennifer comes quite recommended by my DH's colleague who delivered her two babies with her and was quite pleased both times. 8 weeks is good time for the first antenatal check up. Like you, I also wanted to see a gynae right away and at 5 weeks she was not able to do anything for me except a pregnancy confirmation blood test and sent me home to come back at 6 or 7 week at least. A heart beat confirmed after completion of 7 weeks is a good indication for a viable pregnancy so I would recommend not going too early.

I think the word you're looking for is "viable." Wow, 16 weeks! I love that.. no need to see pregnancy as an emergency medical condition :)

No advice to give, but 4 weeks is not too late at all :D It's typical to schedule your first antenatal appointment after 8 weeks for both doctors and midwives in the west, unless you experience any unusual symptoms.
