Ha. Fun :) I would say, don't sound too optimistic about moving here, or that you're optimistic about finding a job here! That is the worst way to introduce yourself and you will not make any allies. Certainly so if you post that your DH has been offered what is a great salary and package. The bitter ones seem to hate that the most in a newbie. Note: some sarcasm and some truth in the above. I think I have mentioned this before, be careful what you say here and this relates to the above. You can be identified as there are much more creepers than actual posters, and it could come back to bite you if you overshare. I was hanging out with a friend the other day, in an executive level position, and he expressed his dismay that a probationary employee decided not to stay on, as he was really an asset. I recalled a thread on here, and putting two and two together regarding the nationality, home country, and number of children, I said oh boy--I can tell you exactly what happened. A bunch of women online helped convince his wife that it would not work out, she would hate it here, money probably wasn't enough, etc. His response? Oh ****, I would have given that guy whatever he needed to stay here! Additionally he said his own spouse got blasted on here for posting a banal inquiry on where to find something in Dubai. He said I hate that forum! lol. So please take the advice here with a grain of salt as everyone's situation will be different here for work and packages, and overall lifestyle. For the right person, companies WILL negotiate because although the excessive packages are certainly on the downtrend, good employees are continually hard to find in certain sectors--so you never know unless you negotiate. note: this is not to say this forum is not extremely useful and plenty of our DHs probably end up finding good information on here, especially because it usually winds up on top google hits for "where to find xxx in Dubai." It's certainly been a huge help to me as well as entertainment...yes, in the good ol days. So sue me, I'm in that camp :)

At the risk of showing my age on the board, I have to say one of the funniest thread ever was a lady having a sick maid and the maid started to take the mickey a bit; as she would only eat mangos which the madam of the house had to slice ??? CouchPotato mentioned it somehow.

These are dinosaur rules. To any new comers don't feel intimidated and don't follow these silly rules; things weren't better before ; as much as some posters are like; the old days it was so good, believe me they moaned about how much better life was before expatwoman.com excited at the old days that supposedly was so much more amazing and interesting than now.

Does nobody have any advice? We can also give general advice. For example:- You must now speak in abbreviated terms in every sentence. Your child will go to DESS or JESS and follow this by going to JC. You will go to MOE to C4 and then go backhome to AR by SZR. You must however know that some things must not be abbreviated. If your child is going to Dubai College this will not be DC and you will go to Ibn Battuta or Dubai Mall (never IBM and DM) and your roads will be Um Suqeim St and All Khail not USS or AKR.

As there are lots of incoming newbies I thought it would be helpful for us to impart our EW advice. Please continue. - if your DM (dear maid) does something outwith your usual customs (for example stamping on your mince or requesting mangoes to be sliced and brought to her) please post this so we can analyse and provide the best advice - do not post two sentences which coincidentally happen to rhyme. You have been warned - from time to time you may feel the need to ask WHO Alex is and why he cannot polish his own shoes. Don't bother asking, there is no answer to this riddle - there may be some occasions where posters vanish only to resurface at a later date with a similar yet cryptically different name. Do not question the circumstances of these mysterious happenings. - the references to The Cucumber Seller are purely circumstantial and do not in any way relate to a real cucumber seller. Even if he is wearing very crisp clothing.
