I purchased a small one .. size of an apple from Lu lu .. it had a painted face and no stalk ! instead it had a load of fur in black and white .. that was 19 aed !!!! I had to get it as I had a sulking 6 year old and the checkout girl said .. madam this is so expensive ! Somone got a modest one weighed and put it back and it still had the sticker on and that was 128 aed !!!!!!!! Holy moly im going to get one from the fruit and veggie market too.. scoop out the flesh and make pumpkin soup and pumpkin bread !

They're up to Dhs 2 per kilo at the fruit and veg market, I got one on Thursday but wish I'd picked up a few more!

How hard is it to carve a pumpkin? Is it seriously difficult to break through that hard exterior?

We used to have swedes or turnips (I never know the difference) when we were small in Norway. I'm not sure if that was a cost-cutting exercise or a cultural thing but we never wondered why we didn't have pumpkins!

Waitrose have a load in but I didn't look a prices. Prob same as Spinneys. I bought red and orange peppers (capsicum) last year, carved them, and put tea lights in them...kids who came trick or treating thought they were great! Lol! Not the same though.

Wow sundevil-sounds perfect. How exactly does one get to the fruit and veg market? It's off of 311 and in between 67 and 44. It's really easy to find off of 311 b/c there are brown signs.

How much are the Spinneys ones? we always used to get a swede and carve that, much smaller but quicker and poss might last longer than a watermelon?

Saw some pumpkins in Lulu in Al Barsha. I didnt look at the price, but they are bound to be cheaper than Spinneys.

Hi, Sadly, I have had a look around and spinneys is the only place-hence they know they can be outrageous. I am waiting to see if carrefour will get any-still expensive but may be better than spinneys. I did do a little experiment last week. Bought a cheap watermelon from co-op and carved that. Worked fine and lasted about 4 days-its dries out quickly. And we juiced all the watermelon so we had some yummy juice too!
