I just wanted to say thanks for a fab event- had a really nice time wandering round the stalls, bought some stuff and had a free health check up... loved the fact it was a larger venue so you could wander round and see everything without feeling crowded- thank you! edited by Licorice on 13/11/2011

It would have been great if it went on until 5pm. For those of us who work on Sat 3pm was too early a finish time. Is the ARTE souk held regularly? The ARTE souk is on at Times Square on the 2nd Friday of each month (except high summer). There is also a new one starting this Friday with lots of the regulars plus other vendors who's items are not made in the UAE, which is the usual ARTE requirement. HTH

I've never been to the Meadows/ Springs area and found it very easily. I took one look at Google Maps and found it right away. I don't like when things are in hotels b/c I don't care to deal with the parking situation but I thought the EW fair was really easy to find and park. Perfect location!

I thought it lacked atmosphere and agree with the poster who suggested some music would have been nice. I enjoyed it more when it was in a hotel, there seemed a bigger crowd and more of a buzz. I heard some people saying they had difficulty finding it and it would be confusing for someone not used to the Meadows.

It was OK. Not as good as past EW fairs as it seemed not as many stalls there. The location was good, however, we left it to around 1.30pm as imagined the parking would be a nightmare, but it was fine. Great point re the music, that would have given the place a much better atmosphere, plus I felt they need a small area set aside with tables and chairs. Got my kids some cupcakes (only served on plates, so no option but to eat them then and there), but there was nowhere to sit down. Couple of friends had stalls there and told me it wasn't that busy compared to how busy it has been in the past and obviously not taken what they would have expected to take. The ARTE Souk was held yesterday, so that may have affected the amount of people attending?

That is a good point Di - didn't think too much about it at the time, but now you mention it it may have livened things up. There is a sound system in the sports hall so I'm sure it would have possible.

me too - it's within walking distance for me now :D still wondering what happened to the thread the other day about this that also had some polite criticism of their last 'do'!! That Thread was 'removed' and really the criticism was constructive I thought, at least up until I last saw the content of it before it disappeared. This mornings event was very nice and well attended but at risk of this thread or myself being removed I would like to politely suggest that it would have been nice to have had a bit of music in the hall - I think it would have jollied up the atmosphere and the sales. Maybe it was not possible- perhaps no sound system. Just my feedback and hope I will not be extradited!

I have been hunting for diaries or planners starting the week on Sunday's, so I was pretty happy to get one for free. And if I had not bought stuff at the fair, I still would have been happy to have been because I now have a diary that is aligned with the working week here, not the western working week.

I've been. Went around 10.30am and it wasn't too overcrowded. Spinney's carpark was pretty much full but there was plenty of space available next door in the Mosque car park. It is very similar to the arte souq at Times Square in my opinion. Not a huge amount of stalls but enough to make you feel you haven't wasted your time. Some beautiful art work - photo's dressed up a bit with paint and beads sewn into the canvas, lots of different jewellery, an interesting crystals stall with crystals actually inside a glass vial that you could put in a jug of water (looked stunning and still contemplating going back for one of those), a few Christmas-y stalls, gorgeous cupcakes, and handmade textiles. Then a smattering of cheap looking touristy stuff. All interesting to look at and I spent more money than I expected to. Worth a look if you live close and have nothing else on.

No parking problems when I was there this morning (used the back car park, and it was fairly empty). Much better than the Anniversary Do. Lots of tempting cakes etc (I am on a diet, and it was nearly my undoing) and some wonderful craft items. Had a health check when I was there too. :-)
