They said on the phone that I did not need a UK bank account. But their website seems to be set up only for accounts with sort codes. Can't open a UK bank account as I'm not there! What a pickle.
Just found this on line -
[b'>If permissible, you will have to apply in the first instance by post. Once your holding has been set up you can register for our online and phone service. Once registered you will be able to manage your holding, including selecting to receive prizes by BACS to a UK bank account (with notification by email), receive paperless documents and cash in and buy more Bonds. Bonds can only be purchased online or by phone using a debit card issued by a UK bank.[/b'>
Sounds as if their customer service aren't as good as they should be ;)

So. I called UK Premium Bonds and they said no problem being outside the UK, no need for the tax certificate when applying from UAE etc.
Except when you are filling the form out online, it asks for a 'sort code'.
We don't have sort codes here. Argh. Anyone managed to do this?
I think you can only buy them with a UK bank account. Sorry

It's no different to national bonds or mashreq millionaire both of which are similar local equivalents.
Thanks Grumpy! :)

You can also have your prizes re-invested so presumably wouldn't need to have a UK bank account. But yes, you should be UK resident...Wouldn't be acceptable here anyway as it's gambling !! lol
Nonsense. It's not gambling. Its an investment, not a lottery It's no different to national bonds or mashreq millionaire both of which are similar local equivalents.
gosh, you're a charmer aren't you ? lol

yes, you can purchase bonds if you live outside the UK and can provide the required documentation (!!)
Live outside the UK?
We can’t make electronic checks outside the UK so you need to send us a certified copy* of certain documents for all persons named on the application who live outside the UK. These documents are:
their current passport or official identity card; and
a letter or notification from their local tax authority, which must be dated within the last three months and include their name and current address
For a child under 16 living outside the UK you need to send a certified copy* of their birth certificate instead of the documents above.
If you are a European Union resident, you also need to include the following details for each person:
tax identification number (TIN)
date and place of birth (town and country)
Please use a separate sheet of paper for this information. We can’t accept your application if it doesn’t include all documents and details required.
Check local regulations before buying. Purchases must be by cheque in £ sterling, drawn on a UK bank account in the name of the purchaser.
* ‘Certified copy’ means a copy certified by an Embassy, Consulate or High Commission of the country of issue or by a lawyer or attorney. The copy must be dated and signed and must include the following statement: “I certify that this is a true copy of the original [title of document'> belonging to [your name'>”. This statement must be in English.
Any relevant information on the document, such as name, address, date of birth and tax identification number, must be clearly labelled in English. When copying passports, you do not need to include any blank pages or pages containing visa stamps.

Hi yes you do but I have them just left them registered at my Mums UK addie ;-) but not suppose to though
Incorrect. You DO NOT have to be resident in the UK to invest in PB. I spoke with NSI when moved to Dubai years ago and they transferred all my correspondence to my address here in Dubai. Any prizes now are paid into my offshore sterling account. Most months I get either 25 or 50 pounds in prize money.

not easy to find this info!
Premium Bonds
A client living outside the UK should check whether local regulations permit them to hold Premium Bonds. For example, the US has strict gaming laws which may mean it isn’t possible or practical to hold Premium Bonds while living there. Where Bonds are permitted, your client will need to apply by post, then register for our online and phone service to manage their holding. Your client will need to have a UK bank account that can receive BACS transfers, and any prizes they win will be paid in Sterling
