Yes Aryanwynn, shaf and lulee we have 11 children - DH had 3 from a previous relationship and I had 5 - we married and had 3 more ! We are now down to the last 2 at home - the older children are in Oz and working or at uni (thank God for HECS) We used to have 2 cars - mini van and station wagon and then as the chldren got older they bought their own cars. No home schooling so far. Wow, this is amazing. I admire people like you.

Females can haven it done whilst having a c-sec but permission will have to be sought from ministry. You Obgyn can sort all the paperwork out for you. We discussed it during my last appt.

Yes, for men it's a local anaesthetic but for women it's a general. I think female sterilisation was offered under heavy sedation for a while but that no longer seems to be an option.

is it easier for a guy to have this as opposed to a chick having her tubes tied?

Kooky, it's advised that men don't go on long haul flights for 7-10 days after having a vasectomy.

Thanks ladies. To those who've had it done ( or perhaps whose DH's have had it done!) were they sore for long? We are in our home country but only for four more days - given your responses, DH s considering getting it done now, if we can get an appt, but I'm worried it will make these last few busy days here difficult, not to mention the plane trip home super uncomfortable!

Anybody know for sure? Gyne said to go in and see doc, they will list it as something wrong and not an elective procedure and then they can do it. My DH had his done in Abu Dhabi - surgeon did it with local anesthetic at his practice with his nurse as he could record it as a hydroceles (not sure of spelling sorry) and as there was no hospital staff to say otherwise it was paid by our insurance. DH wasn't too keen on the local but he said he felt no pain and he was given lots of medication to take home - he recovered quickly and no more babies - we have 11 children and he didn't want a dozen ! Good luck and I'm sure you will find a doctor otherwise repost and I will give you our Drs number :) Do you really have 11 children? :\:

Whew and my DH was moaning about 4! Out of interest JA, do you homeschool? (just because we do and it seems to make having bigger families so much easier) Your DH much braver than mine also, he needed to be put out or I think he would have punched the poor Dr lol :)

I know someone who had it done last week at Sheikh Zayed Military Hospital so I would say if they are doing it there it's legal!

I tried at City and American, all the uro's said they are not allowed to do it here. My gynae advised on doing it at home since it isn't a common procedure here and one you wouldn't like to get wrong! (they can cut structures that seem to be correct but aren't). Since insurances don't pay I would also want to use a Dr who does these daily.

I spoke to my OB/GYN at Medcare a couple of months ago and she said to make an appointment with the Urologist there and they sort it out.

I think it is since then that the rules have changed. I've been told that there is the odd place that does it but cannot confirm this. I've called a couple of places within the past year who did do vasectomies in the past to be told no, they don't do them.

I know 2 men who have had vasectomies, both were done at Medcare Hospital about 2-3 years ago. So unless the rules have changed since then, they are not illegal.
