Thanks so much for the replies....I'm even more excited now that soem of you have done it and been successful! Since I run a food blog, I think it'll only be appropriate if I make my own icing! And I'm trying to keep costs down but will have a peek at the price of the ready made icing.
Will have someone manning each station and there are only 15 kidlets so maximum 5 per station!
I found this link that I'm absolutely swwoning over-

hehe - with 15 toddlers, those pretty pastel colours aren't going to stay pristine for long!
Have fun - baking with toddlers always is!

I've done this. I put the icing in small portions in sandwich bags and then wrapped sellotape around to make cone shaped piping bags, just cut off a very small bit on the tip to let if flow - each child had a work station with three colours of icing and small bowls filled with gummy bears, m&m's, sprinkles, etc.
I've also done it with cookies, letting the kids cut out the cookies and baking them there and then - a lot more work. But helps if you prepare the dough in advance.
Marshmallows dipped in warm choc with a smartie on top - also popular for making with the kids!
This might be too advanced but you could make the biscuit mixture in advance and just let the children add their chosen sweet:-

The little ones can also make fairy bread buttered sliced bread cut into shapes with cookie cutters and spinkles added-easy and they don't have to eat the crusts!!!!
Yep, the Betty Crocker tubs of pre-mixed icing is not the healthiest thing every (hey, its a party!) but is easy and one even comes in pink or last time I bought Vanilla too, divided it into 3 quantities and mixed in some food colours to get pastel blue, green and purple - very pretty for the little girls.
What a brilliant idea! What about the icing that comes in tubes? Maybe a bit less messy. Just wait for the sugar rush lol :)
the icing that comes in tubes is good, but is quite expensive. You could buy tubs of that Betty Crocker stuff [shudder at the ingredients list'> or make your own, which is so very easy - 250g icing sugar, 80g butter, a couple of drops of vanilla and colouring and 25ml of milk. Cream the butter and sugar together until it looks sandy, then add in the liquid and beat senseless for 5 minutes. The kids can then spoon it on, smudge it around and douse it in sprinkles.
Sounds great but for kids that age you don't really need to do all 3 things - too much for them. Just keep it simple and they will love it e.g bake a bunch of cupcakes, whole pile of pink icing for the little girls and lots of different toppings/sprinkes etc from the baking section at the supermarket. They will make a super mess, eat more icing than cupcakes and have a great time! :)
If you feel the need for some "blank" cupcakes or cookie dough, I'm sure places like [url=http://www.facebook.com/pages/Caketastic-Dubai/111813822218118'>Caketastic Dubai[/url'> would be able to help.
I've seen chunks of banana skewered on coloured straws and then dipped in chocolate before which looks fab.
If it were me, though, I would be looking for the most fun with the least mess, so cupcake decorating (bake the bases in advance and then have a selection of coloured icings and sprinkles - Geant do big bags of choc and coloured strands)... or making cookies would be good too.
Make the dough in advance and then give each child a baking tray, a ball of dough and a pile of cutters in the middle and let them do as they wish. If you wanted to prolong the fun, you could be baking the cookies whilst they play other games/ have tea and then they can come back and decorate them just before home time. I saw some easy-to-use squeezy icing things in Crate& Barrel and @Home in MotE.
Great Idea's. The kids will love it! As long as all the fruit for skewers & toppings for pizza are already chopped what can go wrong? No doubt it will be hectic but totally worth it to see their little faces beaming when they prepare & cook their own food. I'll be stealing your idea for when my girl reaches 2!
Good Luck & have fun!
Sounds like a fab idea! Will be a great party! You don't even have to worry with lots of party food as they'll be eating their own creations of course! Just make sure the skewers aren't too sharp and you have lots of adult help. Have fun!
So my 2 year old is celebrating her birthday this weekend and after much brainstorming, I've come up with an idea of doing a baking party. I'm thinking of setting up 3 stations:
1) decorate cupcakes
2) make fruit skewers and perhaps dip in chocolate
3) assemble their own pizzas
The kids are between 2-4 years old. Do you think this will work? Anyone got any suggestions? G*d help me.....I'm feeling stressed already!!!! For those who think it's not worth it, don't tell me! The plan is already in action!!!!!!!!!
