Just thought I'd update this thread to let you know that I got two great cakes from Spinneys. 2 kgs each, one rectangular with a princess picture on it and the other in the shape of a number one. Each had a birthday message on it. The price? AED130 each! Oh and they tasted yummy. Would definitely recommend ordering from Spinneys in Umm Suqueim on Al Wasl Rd. They have a catalogue with pictures you can choose from just like at Mister Baker. Maybe not as elaborate, but easily good enough for kids' parties. Will be going back next year :-)

Wow! I had no idea Mister Baker's prices had gone up. Before the one of the Beach Rd opened, I used to drive down to Karama and large birthday cakes would cost half of what you said. I have bought Park and Shop's cakes a couple of times and the kids really liked them and they have a great catalogue as well. As much as I love the cakes from Cho Coa, I find they are too rich for the little ones. Hi yes I did the same thing last year - ordered a Dora 'shape' cake from that store and paid AED350. It was quite big though. I think I'd better get down to Park n Shop pretty sharpish.

I bought spinneys cake last year for DD's birthday. All I can say is that it was way better than the AED350 cake I got from House of Cakes the year before.

Park n Shops cakes Are fantastic. There is a choice vanilla sponge or chocolate. I think i paid around 70dhs for a good sized cake . The only trouble is once you start munching you cant stop !!!

Recently bought a chocolate one from Cho-coa and it was about 200. Their chocolate cake is about the best I have found in Dubai.

The cakes from Park and Shop in Jumeira are really really nice and they have a catalogue too. I find them a lot better tasting than Spinneys and best thing is they are affordable! Ok thanks Asti! Will have a look :)

Thanks desertdoc - I got dd's cake from Mister Baker last year but it cost me AED350. Now that I've got an extra child that would be AED700 altogether. Sorry to sound tight but I think that's a bit steep for a birthday :-/ Apparently Spinneys in Umm Suqueim (Al Wasl Rd) have their own cake ordering service with a catalogue to choose from. Has anyone used this in the past? TIA x

Apart from their honey cake, I don't like anything else the bakery at Spinney's does. If you are in Jumeirah/Umm Suqquim and don't want to spend too much, try the new Mr Baker on the beach rd. Surprisingly good!
