Breaking Bad. I'd never even heard of it before I was forced to watch it by DH, but oh boy, what a goodun. It's about a straight-laced high school chemistry teacher who finds out he has terminal lung cancer, and needs to make some decent money before he dies to look after his family. He bumps into an old student of his and following a series of events he starts to 'cook' methamphethamine. Suffice to say, this opens up a whole new world to him and he gets into all manner of situations. It's dark, gritty and keeps you on the edge of your seat with each episode. Four series (I think).

Definitely Dexter, can't believe it's only been mentioned by one other person so far! We've also recently enjoyed watching Fringe, The Mentalist and An Idiot Abroad.

Twin Peaks. Was going to suggest the original Life On Mars, but see OP has it there already. Thirty Something? Gilmore Girls.

An oldie but good, Cold Feet. Also got an obsession with Hugh Laurie in House Heroes Harry Potter Shield.

Chocs I just got Walking Dead- was going to watch it for Halloween but we chickened out & watched Monsters Inc instead! :D I do like thrilling shows but on the other hand the zombie thing scares me, I'm a wimp when it comes to horror movies. ANother series I enjoyed (which both got cut short after 1 season, so kind of frustrating) were Jericho - the one with Skeet Ulrich in it- and Defying Gravity (about the space station, not the other one) It's not that graphic, I was worried about that too, but the story is so brilliant regardless. There's not alot of blood and guts, nothing more than you see in other series.

The Big Bang Theory. *knockknockknock*PENNY*knockknockknock*PENNY*!!! LOVE SHELDON!!! My nephews love this show too so it's nice to watch it with them when I am home again. I didn't get Raj at first but now he's one of my favourite characters. edited by SkyKitty on 07/11/2011

Take a look at The Walking Dead - absolutely the best series I've seen in ages. The Big Bang Theory.

I enjoyed Game of Thrones- not for everyone however as they swear a lot and lots of 'scenes'- but the storylines are pretty darn riveting. Borgias is meant to be good also, haven't watched it yet. Loving Pan Am (not a box set of course but currently showing) was a bit slow to start but the stories are getting pretty interesting with historical events thrown into the mix. A lot of people hate relatiy tv but I like the series Guliana & Bill- they actually seem a very genuine couple who actually cares about each other (unlike some other recent examples *coughcough*Kim*cough). They are having a challenge with IVF so some people might find it interesting. Love does exist!! :) I'd be very surprised if these two split. Bill is the guy who won the original 'Apprentice' and Guliana is the lady who presents E! News.

the nons%xual taboo love is always the most intense!!! I really like Mad Men as well and my grandparents generation say it is very realistic. My great Aunt said that being a secretary in NYC was a very huge sought after deal! Lets face it, life is not always so fast moving especially in an hour! Do you watch "BIG LOVE"? I forgot to mention that one If so last season there were a couple of these type of deep love but taboo relations where the characters had no s$xual contact.

hi Sophia - Mad Men is about 50's america, but I think your friends are wrong, it appeals to me a Brit, because it is beautiful to look at, well acted and just so different from most other TV dramas. It 'aint fast moving and half the time you think..."er what was that all about" only for it to be meaningful three episodes later. I love the scenes where Don and Peggy interact. It's about the only nonsexual relationship with a woman that Don can sustain and it's just so touching.

Another vote for Mad Men - superb. Tudors good so long as you don't expect factual history. We also love Doc Martin (recent UK TV series with Martin Clunes). Just watched and enjoyed Downton Abbey. Amazon. co.uk have got some great deals on at the moment for 1/2 price box sets - worth a look. I'm just about to order some of the 70's masterpieces like Brideshead Revisited and Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy to replace my VHS copies. Showing my age here! Most of the series you've watched so far are pretty current - do look a few years back as there were some great series then. How about Only fools and Horses?
