Hi ladies 2013 is the year I've decided to lose my last 2 stone and go for my total body lift procedure, making my total weight loss (after the last 2) 13.5 stones.

Originally i had always thought I'd go to the original pioneer of the surgery in the states, but I'm wondering now, due to the large number of cosmetic surgeons here in Dubai if anyone has had any good experiences of any cosmetic procedures here.

This is a massive operation and I'm of course quite nervous about it.

Any thought much appreciated

lanarkwitch...I feel for you as I've gone through the same.Yes,the first week post op is quite uncomfortable, but it changed my whole life and was well worth the money and effort. The effort put into weight loss is huge,as you know, and I also felt that I did not want the excess skin.I feel especially for you,: 'feeling you have not gained anything body image wise because of loose skin'...start to see doctors and get several opinions.Take your time! As I said,a visit to dr Wayne Smith could be well worth your while. He spent a few hours (2 consultations) with both me and my husband, explaining literally everything to me/us and what we can expect...together of course showing photos of body contours done by him ...the before and after shots are unbelievable. Perhaps you'll even see mine!!...no faces,so no offence! He is a professor as well and has published articles on body contouring in Med Magazines. I have heard good of dr Buthaina too...your pick!

Wow thanks for all the replies ladies, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who's been/going through this. If I am being honest I have absolutely terrified myself with the thought of the all in body lift, it's such a major surgery and I think I might be better to consider the one part at a time approach. I still want to lose about 20lbs, so I've got plenty of time to start looking into surgeons and perhaps getting a plan together. Arms I think first, I feel as though they really add bulk to my top half and it's very limiting in what clothes I can/can't wear, I always seem to be trying to cover something up!! In the end it's just one of those things that until I get the skin removed I think I'm always going to feel like it's all just sitting there ready to be filled up with fat again if you know what I mean and I certainly don't feel I've gained anything body image wise even with the huge loss as my shape is so odd and my tummy looks like I've got a cushion stuffed down my jeans. So much to think about!!

desertom replied : Hi Mahr, why did you have a tummy tuck and a lower body lift? Very few of the dr's actually say on there websites that they do bodylifts.I cannot find reference to armlift or thigh lift either. This is very confusing to me! desertom,I speak under correction but a the word 'body contour/lift' includes all or some of this. For example, you might need a contour of the sides and back of your body but perhaps your arms and legs are fine and without sagging loose skin...or you might just need an inner thigh lift or arm lift or only a tummy tuck or only back lift,or even just lipo suction...(lipo is easy and most plastic surgeons do it)...so it depends what the dr and you discuss are wanted/needed.Tummy tuck is easy and most drs can do that too...BUT,body contouring is an art and only a few plastic surgeons go for such huge cases...it is total reconstructive work. You get plastic surgeons and plastic and reconstructive surgeons...the reconstructive guys love working with these huge cases, not that they do not do small cases, but they love to help for example with birth defects, after motor car accidents etc etc. As I say...I just write what I know, from my own experience and on what I read and heard, but welcome to correct me! One thing I think is very important before a big decision,is to ask the dr photo's of his work...internet marketing is just not enough...you want to know exactly how experienced your surgeon is in your particular field of need...as not all of them are confident with all procedures...but might not tell you that!

Surgery 1 removed 1 kilo of excess skin from my tummy and lifted the outer sides of my legs using a special technique that I have now forgotten the name of. The second surgery was for the back area. Are u exercising, it will help to tone but won't help for loose skin resulting from being over weight too long. Do tons of research and meet prospective surgeons. I met at least 5 before choosing Dr. B. You have to go with the one you trust. Surgery recovery is not easy and I had lots of complications with the back lift, I wanted someone who would see me thru A to Z and Dr. B was there for me 100%

Congrats on the weight loss. I have been there and know where you are coming from. I waited 2 years after reaching goal to consult several plastic surgeons. I chose Dr. Buthaina Al Shunnar, she is a woman, an Emirati educated at John Hopkins in the USA and an artist. Due to costs and downtime, I divided my surgeries into 3 goes. Tummy Tuck in October 2006, Lower Body Lift in May 2007 and Breast reduction in March 2008. I investigated several surgeons and chose Dr. B simply because I believed that she was the best surgeon for me. I am very happy with the results and haven't looked back. The reason why I chose to do cosmetic surgery was due to excess skin, I had rolls from where I had lost the weight. Good Luck

Congratulations on that amazing weight loss! You must feel like a different person! I had a tummy tuck in November with Dr Zuhair Al Fardan at Medcare. I'm very happy with the results, although I appreciate it's nowhere near as extensive an operation as the one you're considering. I found the website www.realself.com really useful when I was trying to mentally prepare myself for the surgery. And again, I know my procedure is small fry compared to yours but I'm SO glad I had it done. It literally has changed my life, and not just from a cosmetic perspective.

I have had the same. After huge kg loss had a total body contour done by dr Wayne Smith in Abu Dhabi. He does loads of them and are excellent in his work. He is at the Harley Street Med Clinic in Abu Dhabi and BR Medical Suites in DHCC Dubai. I am 100% satisfied...in fact,he changed my life.He has a lot of pre and post op. photo's to show,so you can decide for yourself whether to use him or not after a consultation. I think its unfair to write that doctors here cannot do such procedures...some have had international experience, like him...some hospitals here can also definitely handle emergencies!!

Congratulations on your weight loss - a real achievement! Definitely, I would not undertake any such major surgery here in the UAE. The USA, UK or Australia would be my choices. Excellent choices as a private patient.

wow - 13.5 stones. That's awesome. Personally i wouldn't necessarily have any elective surgery, especially such as massive one, here. Would go back to your home country; just in case anything went wrong.
