on places to photograph in the UAE?

I have a visitor arriving who is a amateur (but very good) photographer, and has asked me to take him to a few places to photograph in the UAE or nearby, now sounds like an easy request however I have NO imagination and have absolutely no idea where there's anything decent to photograph... I was really thinking this trip would be malls, restaurants and hanging out at home, but guess not!

The "big red" sand dune has really eroded :( it's not really that big anymore...

If you can face the long journey, the red dunes and salt flats (Moreeb Dunes, I think) at Liwa are a fantastic sight. Mind you, we have a Swiss friend who was misled by the name "Red Sand Mountains" and was utterly disappointed when he went there last week-end :)

Sometimes down in Jumeirah you can find guys working on the racing Dhows, out of the water. Marina side of DOSC is a good place to start. I took some nice pics along there one day.

Ras Al Khor with its flocks of flamingos (either early morning or at sunset), camel race track, camel rock/mountains/wadis; Blastakiya - at the corner near the creek there is a local cafe where whone can chat with nationals, drink ARabic coffee, dress up in local national dress, etc., Shindagah (Heritage & Diving Village/Sh Saeed House), take an abra trip up the creek.

Spice souk, gold souk, beach, desert, souk al bahar, burj Khalife, Difc, Bastakiya, the creek day and night. There are some amazing places to capture - its a pretty amazing pace with so much to offer a photographer. I would recommend getting him to take a day on the metro and explore getting on and off at places he likes the look of. Book him on the captain jacks dhow cruise from the marina and he can shoot from the water

Sooo many lovely places esp near the creek! - the different nationalities getting on/off abras (be careful about photographing people without permission, esp ladies!) - abras at sunset/birds/against the mosque background - old buildings in Bastikya/old style souks - different textiles - differerent boats/dhows coming up the creek from distant ports out of Dubai you have the stunning hajar mountains; different heritage sites; old mosques
