Hi Pepito, I really should have asked in which area you live, i.e. that would have explained. The old type a/cs (in the older areas of Dubai) run via Dewa; in the newer areas (Marina, Emirates Hills, etc), a/cs run on chillers and they use very little electricity but are separately billed by cooling firms. Hence, properties in older construction have far higher Dewa bills but no extra bill for cooling. The taxes (5% Dubai Municipality houseing fee) is levied on all properties in town, and collected via Dewa on a monthly basis; you should see the item at the bottom of your bill. Thank you. I live in the greens, isn't that supposed to be a new area? I have rang once Dewa and was told that my bill includes A/C. I will look at my DEWA bill. Edited as I have just re-read your message, and assume that if my A/C is in my dewa bill, then that explains why it is that high. thank you for all the info! edited by pepito on 21/08/2011

Thanks for all the info, ladies, my husband rang, it turns out it was the wrong account sent in error, therefore not our bill. It pays to check everything. Sorry, last months was less than half of this one.

Hi Pepito, does your a/c runs via electricity (as opposed to chillers in the new areas)? Also, do check if there is a 5% Government housing fee included in your bill. Surely, the bill for a 3 br apt would be higher! Hi Crystalsindubai, I dont know if my A/C runs via electricity?! I might also be paying taxes in my DEWA bill. Thank you for the info.

Wow! my DEWA bill for 1 bedroom is around 300aed/months, it is as high as a 3 bedroom??!!! we only have the A/C on when at home. Pleeeease don't tell me you are 'complaining' about an entire bill of AED 300/month!!!! We are in a 3 bed villa, switch off the A/C upstairs when we come down in the morning, switch off lights etc and we pay 2500-3000 per month and YES we pay municipality tax and have for the last 6 years, no matter where we move to they find us! we have neighbours in our compound who still don't pay tax & we pay AED 625 month tax alone. So please don't complain about AED 300 for entire bill! FYI, I am not complaining at all, I am just making a comparaison with everyone else's bills. Surely if you were in a 1 bedroom appartment, and realised that other people in a 3bed appartment are paying the same, you will question yourself, too. I am new to Dubai (5months) and didnt even know about taxes, I will look at my bills in details now.

We live in 2bd 3 bathroom in Dubai Marina. Our water/power charges are around AED260 a month. Yours does seem very high. May be worth checking it. HTH. But you surely have separate chiller charges as well that would account for your a/c? OP's a/c seems to be runing via electricity in which case I would consider these charges acceptable. My apologies ladies.... didn't follow from the beginning! edited by crystalsindubai on 21/08/2011

Do u have a water heater? Could be that the setting for the water heater is too high and the thermostat switches on automatically to heat the water - whether you are using it or not.

Hi Shelley, I live in a 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms at Marina. For water and power I pat around 300 aed month. The a/c is only on when we are at home. I don't know why for you it was so high. Are you paying for only one month? Is the house fees included? Regards
