My groomer let me loose with the clippers on my dogs this week. I had some idea that I could clip them myself to help keep their coat nice and short in the heat. Now even I am too embarrassed to walk with them - they have these strange stick like legs poking out from under a shorn tummy and their pom pom on theor tail now looks more like a loo brush. Never mind princessess, they look more like frogs :\:

My toy poodle is definitely an "indoor" girl - she is a "princess" and will not even sit on the sofa without a pillow!!! She goes to the salon every 4 weeks and gets a "bikini cut". She doesn't really like going for walks and certainly doesn't like the hot bitumen on her soft and groomed feet. She likes the car and prefers (like most princesses) to just watch the goings on from the safety of the car!! She does enjoy the desert at night if we go out for a BBQ but only when the weather is good. She does not cope with the heat at all. I leave the aircon on 24x7 for her during the hot months. Like all poodles, she is definitely a one person dog.

fao pattigb Thanks for the info, that isn't as bad as I feared. How does your poodle cope with the heat - do you have to clip her more often - mine are clipped every 6-8 weeks in the Uk.

I use Woof in Al Quoz -- absolutely fantastic place. :) I pay 300dhs in total for two full-coated shih tzu fortnightly [wash, blow-dry, sanitary trim, nails etc'> and we couldn't be happier. Every so often, I add a 'teeth clean' to the mix but they've never charged me for that. PS. I generally brush my dogs almost daily but if I let that slide and they have any matts [rare but does happen'>, it's 50dhs per half hour for 'de-matting''>. It's only happened once. :D

We use pets habitat in Al Barsha near Al Barsha vet clinic are great 04 3418085. The groomers Jeff or Danny are excellent. It is a great value at 180dhs for a large dog. Bubbly ( our golden retriever) loves the place.

I have a very tempermental toy poodle who is 8 years old. I use Royal Pets in Mirdiff. They are very kind and caring. I have tried many different grooms, both sides of the Creek but these people are the best so far.

We use Shampooch. It's the mobile groomer that comes to your home in the big pink van and they groom your dog right outside your house. I find it very convenient - saves me from having to drive him to a shop and go back and pick him up.
