When we moved house from one area of Dubai to another our LG DVD player/recorder stopped playing most of our DVDs That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever :\: Only vague possibility is that while it was unplugged during the move, its firmware was reset... but never heard of that happening before. Maybe the laser got knocked in the move. If the laser is physically damaged, nothing you can do with the handset will fix it. It had to have been a firmware issue. The firmware is the player's onboard operating system, which - among other things - determines which regions it will play. Does anyone know if the blue ray ones can be tweaked The general rule is that most BD players, at least the name-brand ones, can be made multi-region using a handset hack for [b'>DVD playback only[/b'>. If you want to be able to play BDs from any region, you usually need to get the hardware modified. Someone in Dubai must do this. In the UK, you can buy pre-modified BD players (that will play any region DVD and any region BD) from specialist retailers, but the mod usually adds about £75-100 to the price compared to the standard unmodified player.

Does anyone know if the blue ray ones can be tweaked? Was going to get one but was told they can't be tweaked by sharaf. That's a really good question. We are planning to get one this weekend but it will be a no-go if it's not multi region.

I have been able to make all the DVD players I bought here multi region except for one particular Sony model We've never had to do anything to any of the DVD players we've bought here. All of them have been brand-name models (Sony, Panasonic) bought from major electronics shops and they've always been multi-region out of the box. I have always had to program my LGs to be multiregion. Sony is sometimes multiregion and Aftron always is...

I have two portable Sony DVD players, both bought here. One came multi region and the other is unhackable. I have been searching for years for a hack code for it and it seems that one does not exist for that particular model...:(

All dvd players can play all regions if you 'fix' them to do so. They don't from the outset because it makes more money for companies if you have to buy dvds from a specific region to fit your player. Just search on-line for 'dvd hack codes' and you will find many sites where you put in the make/model of your dvd player and they will give you a code to enter which changes your dvd player from regional specific to able to play ALL dvds. I've done it with at least 4 dvd players and it has always worked.

We brought it with us when we moved here, then moved house twice and it always worked. When we moved the third time it stopped playing a lot of our DVDs. A quick search on google, 5 minutes playing around with the romote and problem solved.

Just pop down to Dragon mart and buy a cheapo dvd player, they'll play a piece of toast if you want them to.

Make sure you verify before purchasing and do it yourself by bringing in a DVD from the USA, for example. The sales staff are useless for this type of question so don't bother asking them. I have been able to make all the DVD players I bought here multi region except for one particular Sony model. It is the only portable Sony I've seen on the market here nowadays so don't buy it if you want multi region. It seems to be unhackable.

I think you can "fix" any DVD player to be multi-regional. When we moved house from one area of Dubai to another our LG DVD player/recorder stopped playing most of our DVDs! I did a search on google and found a code I needed to enter and it now plays all DVDs.

Ask for a Region 0 dvd player. They play all the regions. If you cant find it just buy a regular one and have it 'fixed'.
