Just wondered if anyone knows who to make an official complaint to at Emirates. We had no joy at the airport at the time so if anyone knows would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Good on you kavsmum! I always feel that it's really hard to complain over here as most of the time it seems that people couldn't care less. I think that places do make it hard to complain.

UPDATE We now have had a reply from Emirates. Very long winded to say the least. I only detailed about half of what happened because it was too long to post, so you can imagine from what was put how much there actually is. The complaint has gone to senior management now we have been told, but were offered something because of it. I won't say what it is for now, but would like to know what you would expect them to do/offer you.

Good news Kavsmum. Your action alone may just be all it takes to make the few employees who are obviously not doing their job properly, buck-up. Cheers, Ali

NEW UPDATE So off we went to Emirates Headquarters.Arrived there after finally finding our way in to the car park. Took the ticket so we could PAY on the way out DH was not impressed and added it to his list. Found where we were going, only to be greeted by a couldn't care less receptionist. She told us to take a seat, then just told us to go and sit in another room no manners whatsoever. We sit and wait and a gentleman comes to see us. At first it seemed he was just going through the process of recording it, but the more we told him the further his jaw dropped. He agreed with everything we said and more. The outcome is 5 Emirates staff from UM are now under investigation, this should now take 2 weeks max and we will know what they are going to do about it all. Will let you all know what happens.

Ali.K...."went mad" would be understatement although I tried to appear calm and not yell at anyone. All I was concerned about at that point was getting my daughter on the plane so we could head off to the Maldives so I held my nose and bought another ticket. Needless to say by the time it was sorted out and we were checked in, I knocked back a couple of cheeky glasses of grape (at 8am!!) to calm down!! the ticket was booked through the call centre in April...lesson there for the future I think!

Suze.........confirmation not valid and ticket cancelled????...... I hope you went mad!! I would have! Did you book with someone face-to-face? at an Emirates Hub for example. Was the ticket booked at short notice? When Emirates are good and on form they are fab!! BUT, when they are rubbish, they can't handle things. Worrying really.

lol suze63. I have spent some time chatting to my two about their flights. They always fly when it's an end of term or a half term. There is always a fair sized group of children travelling together as UM's. They therefore all sit altogether as a group and my children now know some of these other kids. Even when it's just the two of them, they have each other, and my daughter is quite an outspoken young lady, if she wasn't too happy with something she may well say something to a member of staff. That maybe why we have never had an issue so far.............safety in numbers. Not that that should make a difference. Whether it's one child or 20, Emirates should be totally trustworthy, everytime!

I have had an email response from Emirates. Interesting thing that may be useful for others....the email came from Customer Affairs however it had a name at the bottom. In my reply I cc'ed it to [email protected] and it hasn't bounced back. So if you call and get someone's name perhaps email them directly then it's less easy for them to ignore. Loking forward to the update from Kavsmum tomorrow...maybe I could come aslong too! We could have a sit in!!

Told them we are not happy with that and are now seeing somebody at 7am tomorrow. So fingers crossed all will go well. Will update tomorrow with hopefully a resolved situation. "complaints list"???? "30 days"???? well that is a shock, I didn't realise there were such things!! Looking forward to the next instalment.............well done kavsmum for the info.

Interesting thread and very relevant to me! I was sending DD as UM to Newcastle on the 07.20 and DH and I were flying to Maldives at 09.30 same day (7th July). When we arrived at the airport we were told the confirmation wasn;t valid and the ticket had been cancelled (despite me calling up two days in advance to confirm the arrangements). I would have fully expected the staff in T3 to step up and sort this out however was handed a phone and told to call teh call centre (nothing to do with them apparently). 45 frustrating 9and stressful) minutes later all sorted as I bought another ticket (this ended up as the worlds most expensive one way flight to Newcastle). There is an additional minor point.... were two UMs on the flight the other being a teenage girl. Her parents had already left and we walked to the departure area with the two girls and the Emirates staff member; it turned out she'd forgotten her pass and had to run back to the UM Centre to get it, leaving DD and the other girl with DH and I. Sure that her parents hadn't expected her to be left with two strangers for 10 mins! I emailed Customer Affairs on Sunday, chased Monday....you know the rest. Will be interested to here how you get on Kavsmum

Keep at this Kavsmum, and tell them that other parents are waiting to see what their response is to your complaint. I have to say that so far, given ash clouds and closing airports at xmas for snow.......both of which affected my children's flights, Emirates did very well. I really do hope this is a one off!! Ali

Both I think!! Also to cut down on the people who complain as well. How many people can go in to complain Sun-Thurs, most are at work and need the weekend to do this. We are not at all happy.

Sounds familiar, I was told the same thing by another airline, wonder if they do this deliberately just to annoy us even more or is it simply total incompetence.

It gets better, we were told to go in to see somebody on Saturday, so we duly went, only to be told when we got there that they were closed on Friday AND Saturday!!! DH was not at all impressed. So we now have an appointment in a couple of days time. I suppose it all adds to their bad customer service.

Hi Kavsmum, Could you please let us know this turns out. My Children fly as UM's about 8-10 times a year. I have not had a problem so far and had felt this was something I could rely on Emirates to get right. I do hope that this is still the case. Here's hoping you get a positive response from Emirates soon. Ali.k Will let you know ASAP we are going in to see somebody on Saturday, so fingers crossed all will be sorted. This is the first time we have had a problem as well. Hopefully it's a one off.

The plane wasn't quite full no. They do give them 3 seats normally, but they booked a man in next to her knowing she was an unaccompanied minor. They said they could not move the man because he was with his family, which was wrong because he was sat next to our DD.She ended up sitting next to a lady whose 2 children were on the other side of her.So she ended up sitting next to their mother. Whether it was the father sat next to my DD we don't know yet.The service we recieved from unaccompanied minors was unacceptable.I would not want anyones child to have to go through this.

Was the plane full? I have always found Emirates to TRY to give an unaccompanied minor three seats to themselves if the plane isn't full but if this isn't possible they will place them next to a woman (possibly the reason they put her in the seat they did )

Great minds think alike :). We have done exactly that!! Got our side at T3 unaccompanied minors lounge, DD side from start to finish and also the texts she sent to me from the airport lounge and the plane. Will keep in mind the press as well as a back up plan.

.....Emirates seem to hide their managers and it is extremely difficult to find someone in charge, that actually cares. .... Agree, but as a precaution I would also write the whole incident in a letter and take it to them when you go in, even if you do manage to get to talk to anyone in charge they may ask you to email it in to them and/or try to dismiss the matter if you have not put something in writing at that point. Have your letter printed out ready to put in front of their faces and then email it as well after your visit referring to the name of the person you spoke to at their offices. Do hope they take this seriously and deal with your complaint appropriately. Its appalling they treated a child in that manner. From my experience I had to involve the press to get any reaction from them. Maybe you should do likewise if you get no joy dealing directly.

The customer affairs email is the correct email for complaints. I had sent a complaint off recently and started to call after about 48 hours on a regular basis to make sure they got the point how important I thought my complaint was. I hope it will work out for you going there in person. Emirates seem to hide their managers and it is extremely difficult to find someone in charge, that actually cares. Fingers crossed for you...just hate the way they treat economy passengers these days, considering the prices they charge.

How old is she? It is not acceptable to treat a child like that. Even if she has travelled alone many times, it is still a difficult thing for them to do and staff should be making the experience easier for them, not adding to the trauma.
