morning

my dd woke up yesterday morning with spots on her hands and feet. I took her to the drs and she diagnosed hand foot and mouth. These spots have now spread onto her legs and all over her bottom. I can also see ulcers on her lips. Dr said her mouth is full of sores and throat slightly inflamed. Poor baby.

The dr said that these spots shouldnt be itchy however i have caught dd scratching them. They are also turning into blister type spots.

HAs anyone elses children had this and did you put cream on the sores? i have been putting sudacrem on her bottom but not sure if its helping.

I did a quick search but couldnt find my answer.

tia

Yes i would get a second opinion, i was told by a dr that hand foot and mouth, is exactly that and is only on hands, soles of feet and mouth not anywhere else. It does sound more like chicken pox?

Sounds like it might be something else if it is not just palms of hands and soles of feet. Doesn't chicken pox sometimes manifest as mouth ulcers? Really?? Ill give the drs a ring then and see what she says. thanks

thanks ladies. she is itching and im trying to keep her mind off it. She doesnt understand not itching. Yeah, i am keeping up with the Adol for the fever and pain. I just feel so sorry for her. Giving her lots of cold liquids and yoghurts/ice cream etc. She has had a bit of breakfast but not much. Spots are spreading onto her legs and tummy. She must have a really bad dose of it! Dont know what to do for the best for her. :(

My daughter had it a few years ago, we just gave calpol and nurofen for discomfort. Didn't put sudocrem, but she didn't have spots on her bottom - only hands and feet. And yes the spots were very itchy and turned into water blisters but I can't recall putting any cream on them. It was painful to eat because of her ulcers, so we stopped for milkshakes and ice cream anytime she wanted them as she couldn't bear to eat normal food. It's very contagious though so be really vigilant around other kids! My daughter got it from her cousin who got it from nursery. It normally affects small children up to about 5, I read that school age children have enough immunity to fight it off. Hope she is on the mend soon.

We had cases of this in the nursery I work in recently. Sounds like your DD has one of the worse cases seeing as she has the ulcers in her mouth. The only way through it is to give her ibuprofen for the temperature and to ease any pain she is in. Also plenty of water and fluids. She won't feel like eating with all those sores. At least she is not contagious now though. Hope she is better soon and does not suffer too much.
