Has anyone working in the DIFC recently obtained a liquor license? And if so, which letters did you need? Our PRO does not seem to know. According to MMI website you need a salary certificate to get a license (which I believe I have to get from govt dept rather than my company) but it also says that if you work in a free zone then you have to have a NOC from the police - do I do that through DIFC or do I have to go to the police station? All very confusing! Thanks in advance!

I was also debating doing this after 4yrs here but am not in FZ company and the process is slightly different. I was somewhat turned off when I was told my hunsband needs to give me an NOC addressed to C...I....D allowing me to get the licence (as our tenancy contract is not in my name)...so I think as a matter of principle against all this big brotherism I will delay for another 4 years in case they come up with more reasonable legislation in the meantime:-)

Just to add to Cornish Pixie's note: - You can also do normal (not express) request for the DIFC salary certificate the cost is AED 100 (and is usually a one day turnaround) -- Bring the liquor license application with you to DIFC Government Services when you pick up the salary certificate as they have to stamp the liquor license application. The process is shown in the DIFC Client Handbook, page 41 http://www.difc.ae/sites/default/files/GSO%20Client%20Handbook%202013.pdf

Your company has to write the salary certificate letter addressed to the Dubai Police Dept.and then you apply online for the DIFC letter (attaching the company letter, passport and visa copy) , I did an express request last week and it cost AED130 - our PRO collected the letter the next day. This letter is in lieu of a labour contract.

It's very simple and your PRO should know this. You just need a sponsor letter signed from the DIFC. Here is the link http://www.difc.ae/government-services-forms
