I have searched over two days every nook and cranny of our home and my egate card seems to be lost. Does anyone know what is the procedure to get a new one (and how painful the procedure will be?)

Also I heard that they are phasing it out to replace it with Emirates ID...has this been done already? Can anyone update me please? Thank you! :)

Thank you Couchpotato, yes nothing ever seems to be a simple procedure here...however I have good news...after six hours of going through every closet, drawer and container I found my Egate!!! It was such a relieve as I was already dreading having to go to the police station and it being typical Dubai... I know once I get there they will give me more instructions from one department to another etc. Crisis averted and my sanity will remain restored for now. Hehe!

Appletiser when I had my wallet stolen my Egate card was one of the things inside (along with Emirates ID cards, Driving License, etc etc) - you can imagine trying to get them all reissued. ANYway, getting a police report now is not quite as simple as before when you used to turn up with 20 AED and get it done. You must firstly visit a typing centre and request a police report which will detail everything, and it is in arabic, and then you take it to the police station, get the police report and then take it to Egate (you'll get it reissued within 10 mins at DNATA). You'll also have to pay for a new one I'm afraid.

Yes I just called the Residence department and they said I need to bring: 1. Police report 2. Original passport 3. Dhs300 Then depending on which branch I go to it can take 1-3 days to get a new egate card. Hope their systems aren't 'down' for replacement cards too as we all know 'System is down' in Dubai is codeword for 'I cant be bothered to do any work and would rather play candy crush on my mobile phone'.

According to the Dubai immigration website you need a police report to replace a lost e-gate card: [url=http://dnrd.ae/en/Services/ServicesGuide/Pages/AudianceService.aspx?ServiceId=250&AudianceId=2'>link[/url'> Mine is on my Skywards card now so I don't have to carry both. That's another option if you have Skywards membership. Like GE, we tried to register our passports last time we flew back to Dubai and queued up for ages to do this at the immigration counter, only to be told that the system was down! Good luck!

Not sure how the replacement would work, but I presume that if you still have your receipt you would have to go to one of the places where they issue them. Don't bother going down the EID route as this still doesn't work :( If you have certain new passports you can get them authroised next time you fly in and use the same route as the egate card. We did this with our British passports last May when we flew back into Dubai. Took a while to get sorted, but no longer than it would have taken us to get through immigration with the masses. Unfortunately we haven't flown since then so I can't tell you how easy it is to arrive now.
