I met / interviewed a maid recently who was accustomed to a v high salary (3k?!!) plus as part of the 'package' 3 months salary as a bonus at the end of the contract.............. oh right - see you later! GULP My maid repeated me the same story, and i sometimes wonder if they are not saying this kind of things just to get a better salary.

I think they see "mug" written across our foreheads, think we are bottomless pits of money, thousands of AEDs here or there means nothing to us....

Since as it is not that clear cut, I've decided that prior to handing over the paperwork to start the new visa process with the new sponsor, I'll ask her to sign a letter stating that all salaries due are paid, she's had her paid holiday and return flight home, and that we owe her no money of any sort....If she doesn't, we'll know there's trouble brewing...and we know what we need to do. The maid is supposed to make life easier. I resent having to expend time, thought and energy thinking about these things, the what ifs and trying to stay a few steps ahead of the situation......just because we actually do want to give her another chance.

GULP Don't believe her. Check first with their employer. She's allowed to one-month salary only in the event she chooses not to take her holidays or if you terminate early her contract. That's all.

Defo inch.yard. BTW the cheapest flight option is with China Southern and this maid appears to need that.

Hopefully it won't take long for the reality check to kick in caduku. It's not all that clear, from the contract: Second Article 2. The Maid shall be given one month paid vacation after contract completion [contract length is 2 years btw'>. The second party may opt for a month salary in lieu....in addition to the value of one return ticket to home country. [She's had the paid holiday plus return flights after 10 months with us, not 2 years'> Ninth Article (The contract length) 1. The duration of the contract is for two years..... 2. In the event that the Sponsor wishes to terminate the contract before turn, the Sponsor must provide a return ticket for the Maid and pay one full month's salary. She's had more than her entitlement, probably being fed some Maid rumour about what she's entitled to. I think if she wants one full month salary based on Ninth Article, I'll just tell her that a) She's had it as part of the paid holidays in less than 2 years b) that we must also pay to fly her home. No, she's just had her 1 month paid holiday and return flights home in August. edited by Sugarbeach on 20/10/2011 Then no she's got it wrong. Go through the contract with her and let her see that she has had all shes entitled to.

If she as not had 4 weeks vacation time but worked for the whole year then yes she is entitled to a months salary in lieu of vacation. Maybe that's what she means. edited by Clairehdp on 20/10/2011
