Hmm .. we stayed a couple of days in London but I remember our flight was in the afternoon as the kids were fed dinner on the plane. Arrived to lapland, checked in to hotel and it was practically bed time. Perhaps the timings have changed. They fly to several cities in Finnish Lapland, so check carefully. edited by desertdoc on 31/10/2011

Thank you so much. That's really helpful. I wonder if there are any left for the dates we want? Will go check. Then it's just a matter of organising connecting flights from here to Gatwick in time to get through immigration etc I suppose. Looks like the only flight leaving for Finland is at 7.30am, so that could be awkward...

Hi. We stayed at this place: http://www.monarch.co.uk/lapland-holidays/5-night-trips/santastic-secret-forest/yllasrinne-log-cabins It's in Finland and I think the ice hotel is in sweden. But there is still loads to do and the staff are excellent. We were all in tears when we left and my kids talk about going back all the time. The whole thing was so well organised and fun for the kids, from the moment you check in. Good luck!

You mentioned on this thread about a holiday your family did to Lapland a couple of years ago: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=159299 It sounded so different, I'm thinking it might be good for our family over the Christmas break. I like the idea that they give you the ski gear and all food is provided, so I've just been looking at the Monarch Holidays website. But now I'm confused about the accommodation as it sounded like you were in cabins where you could have your own fires. Can you tell me which facility you stayed in? Also, do you know whether you could see that Ice Hotel from this venue or is it too far away? Cheers
