I have 3 sets of the UK passport application forms which I no longer need, if anyone wants to do the renewal like how Scribs'done it. I will destroy them this week if no-one wants them.

I got a reply back to my email, saying that passport was due to be processed within the the next few working days, provided there are no unforeseen circumstances. Dhl'd on 16 May and payment taken 27 May. Just received the new passport today! Very pleased, now just waiting for my own UK visa to be processed!

and for JHM I don't think you'll have any problems travelling with less than 6 months on your little one's passport. I flew to Europe with my DH in mid-March when he had 3 months left on his passport, no problems at all, and when we landed in Dubai he was just short of 3 months left on his passport. The rules I think state that to enter Dubai a non-resident without visa has to have 6 months left on passport, a resident with visa 3 months, and in my experience they didn't even question me when my son had less than 3 month's left so I don't think they're so concerned with children. And if you're travelling to your home country it's not an issue either. edited by Scribs on 28/06/2011 Thank you Scribs. I'm sure we'll be fine but it's all compounded as we've done the last 4 summers here and the children are desperate to go!

My dh send his passsport to Dusseldorf, throuhg dhl on 20th of june for next day delivery, as we were tracking it went to germany, then came back to bahrain and back to Dubai. we rang dhl and asked them wht is happening. Total it took 5days to reach Dusseldorf. we only gave our credit card details for this purpose, but as we were checking if they charged the card ....20,000dhs was taken from our card in europe by someone. We were so worried , how we can give the new credit card no to the consulate in Germany. I asked my dh to e-mail Ms Suwanne and she replied to us that she couldnt reply during the weekend, and asked us to send the new card no to their office fax or to scan to her personnally plus the dhl tracking details, as when we rang the helpline passport wasnot even logged on to their system. We got a reply from her yesterday, she will dispatch the passport sometime during the week . what a releif! I dont know what the British consulate here is for? To serve the british Nationals or for stamping visas for tourists? So dissappointed...........

Just to let you know that I had an email from Suwannee yesterday several days after I emailed her and days after we received our passport. She apologised but since her email address has been circulated she is now inundated and is trying to answer emails and process passports at the same time. So if anything it's slowing the process down further. Despite the expense the phone call is the only way to expedite your passport being processed. Below is the email address she gave me so I could register my complaint. [email protected]

I wouldn't have thought you'd need your marriage certificate as that would have been needed to change your passport into your married name, but hopefully someone can confirm.

Can I ask what happens to your visa when you get a new passport? Do you need to get it transferred here? (&go through that painstaking experience again??!!) Want to change name on mine to married name, therefore new passport! Don't know about a name change but DS's visa is in his old passport. We have the two joined together with an elastic band and just hand over the pair.

Just renewed my DS's passport IN THE UK. We sent it by courier from Dubai to my in-laws in the UK, who took it to the post office on 16 JUNE for check and send. It was processed and returned by courier to my in-laws address on 25 JUNE. Processing time 9 days (from the point of drop off at the post office). Tomorrow it will be on its way back to Dubai! I'm very glad now I let my DH do it this way rather than in Germany.

Applied for middle daughter's passport renewal and sent off the docs to Germany on 7th May and signed for receipt on 9th. Credit card was debited on 26th May. Started to get a tad worried a week ago and sent an email to that nice lady in Dusseldorf who said that it was scheduled to be printed and dispatched early this week. That will be an eight week turnaround. As long as it arrives by next Wednesday! Lord knows how the poor people who have applied in the last week or so will get on, especially as Arabian Business has run this story today: http://www.arabianbusiness.com/british-expats-face-eight-week-wait-for-new-passports-407481.html Oh - when I renewed my passport in January it was superbly efficient: just five working days from sending it off to receiving the new passport back. edited by choccy62 on 28/06/2011

Anyone else had their UK passport back recently? What is the latest processing time please? Just called the useless-but-polite helpline that cost a bomb, they are now saying 8 WEEKS from payment provided the application is OK (obviously longer if not), but not sure whether they are just managing expectations and covering their backsides or whether it's real. edited by Sugarbeach on 28/06/2011

Max, the call centre is in the UK I think not Germany as they were all Scottish when we called. If you are worried call for piece of mind but maybe wait until Monday. We told them when we were travelling and it was processed the same day. Good luck. Now I can say I'm sure you'll be okay but until you get it it's awful. Fingers crossed for you.

Bird, so pleased for you. I emailed last week and was told as long as there is no unforeseen circumstances, passports will be processed this coming week, hope so as we leave for Uk 2 weeks tomorrow, do you think it's worth phoning the lady in Dusseldorf this week for an update? Don't want to hassle her if they are busy?

Email was too late as it had already been sent but definitely the phone call. They processed it the same day! So they had it all this time. If you need it quickly then I would call.

Such a relief for you Bird. So do you think the phone calls and emails actually make a difference or do you think it would have happened anyway?? Sent mine a month ago, I'm not sure whether to just wait or phone/email. That phone line is pretty useless, complete waste of time and money..... edited by Sugarbeach on 25/06/2011

Gahhhh! How can a process involving FOUR countries for processing be described as "streamlined"?!! No wonder... To be fair, I'm not sure the word they used was "streamlined" and I'm afraid I can't be bothered to look it up..

When I got DS newborn passport in Oct last year it took 7 days door to door, goodness knows what's gone on in Dusseldorf to muck up the system since then! On April 1st, Overseas Passport Applications were "streamlined" (or any other weasel word of your choice). So, now, you send your application to Dusseldorf, Dusseldorf sends your application to the UK, the UK issues the new document and possibly sends it directly to you, or, more likely, sends it back to Dusseldorf who sends it back to you. What's more, the renewal is not done by the British Passports Office themselves, it is outsourced to a company in Ireland, who I should imagine are one and the same people who request your credit card details at 74p a min or whatever outrageous sum it is before putting you on hold for an unconscionable amount of time to speak to a useless, though friendly, person, who more often than not, cannot help. HTH. HAND. Gahhhh! How can a process involving FOUR countries for processing be described as "streamlined"?!! No wonder...

HTH. HAND. what is HAND? Have A Nice Day ;) the two people who answered phone yest were irish. the ones that said to nip down to British embassy bur dubai and renew passport. ???? You're kidding :) You're not kidding. It's farcical, but not funny for the people involved whose passports are flying around in this mess. Brian Rix should be here - no, that's the deleted "Feelings" thread..
