GOOD FOR YOU!!! I think it is all about attitude!!! I never feel old and therefore am not!! My daughter never complains about her "old Mum", in fact, we have a great time together - I cherish every moment and I think she does too ..... :)

I too have been a young mummy and now an older mummy ! My youngest DD is 11 and oldest DS is 34 ! I had my youngest when I was 42 but I've never been mistaken for her grandmother but when DD was a baby my oldest DS was mistaken as my husband ! Must have looked really hot then :)

I am 50 with a 7year old daugther and two older sons, 28 and 26 (from a previous marriage)!!!!!!! I thought it would be terribly difficult but in fact, I love being an older mother. I was "a child raising a child" (my sons) previously; I really enjoyed my sons but did not appreicate all the little milestones of their lives - there is always tomorrow when you are only 20!! I cherish my daughter's each and every milestone, every little achievement. I still have heaps of energy and enjoy doing all the activities I can with my daughter!!! With age comes wisdom - I don't care what people think - I have a wonderful marriage and a wonderful family and feel 25. I am blessed to have experience motherhood at both ends of the "age scale" - there are advantages and disavantages to both - bottom line is - we do not have a choice, so just go with the flow and enjoy what God has given us.

I'm 42 and expecting no 3 in July. No's 1 & 2 are 5 and 2.5 respectively. I feel great, love being a mum and really wasn't ready too much before they arrived. I think for that reason - not necessarily being older, but being ready - makes me a better mum than I've have been earlier. Great post Alicia - I'm from the same camp as you - first child at 41 and 2nd at 43 - I completely agree - I most definitely was ready - and I know I've done tons of stuff before I had kids and now I have them I'm loving every minute and can afford to do so much with them having worked hard (and played hard!!!!) before they arrived!

I'm an old mother with a young child (DD is 8) and I;ve been through the mill with the teenage stuff too (elder is 19). I haven't been mistaken for a grandmother yet (I'm 47) although my younger sister is actually a grandmother!

Ha ha ha! I love it! My girl bucks the uniforms too. Her latest is wearing her sweater with a scarf around her neck thinking the powers that be won't notice she doesn't have her uniform shirt under the sweater...they're on to her tho! I love her creative ways of expressing herself - I think she's starting to get that there is a time and place for it tho. I will absolutely quote your quote..."you don't need my help, I'd only be a hindrance (gotta love it)! :) Blimey, Blimey, I'm a complete failure in that respect. She's in deep doo-dah at school for regularly not wearing the correct uniform (there are no school uniforms in Geneva, where she was born and bred till last September, except in the occasional private school and then you get bullied for being seen to be a poor little rich kid, so it's not her bag at all) and all I can do is laugh and say I told you so, what do you mean, you want to be original, you've got to obey the rules or you get into trouble.. Suck it up, Princess (as I believe is the popular phrase round here ;) )Hitler then entered the argument. You don't need my help, I'd only be a hindrance :)

Today I went to my first grader's class for a Mother's Day party. The kids had filled out little info sheets about their mothers, including their age. I took some quick peeks at those around me, and yes, I was the oldest one...I'm 47 and have a 7, 10, and 13-year-old. Need to teach ds that it's o.k. to lie sometimes....lol

Im an old mum, wel I think I am lol Im 45 this year and my daughter is 7. I am told I dont look my age at all and I hope thats true. I find I have less patience now than when I was younger though. Interesting. I was 39 when my one and only was born, and I remember the paediatrician saying to me that I had enormous patience with my child because I was keeping her amused when she was unhappy about a vaccination and didn't slap her when she cried. I think I may have come from a different background than many of the other children this paediatrician treated.. Gosh I cant imagine slapping my child if she cried while being vacinated. Although in my job (Social Housing) I see some terrible parenting skills, it would make you shudder.

i've been a young mom with a young kid and now an old mom with young kids and I'd take being old any day. A young brain just seems to care too much what people think. I no longer dress to impress for a school run; pyjama days just have to do as does slept on hair and no make-up.

i've been mistaken for his grandmother twice !!! One day last summer walking to school he ran off ahead to hide and pounce on me - another mum rushed up and helpfully told me my "grandson" was hiding behind a hedge !! lol. Couple of weeks later we were in a toyshop and he was playing with his macdonalds toy - the older woman in the queue in front of us with a young child turned to us and said "ahhhh, another nana who spoils them rotten "!!..I must have been having a particularly stressful time lolol

Are you talking to ladies who've been asked if they're their own child's grandmother? That's me in the corner ;) She's now 16 and I'm 55. Am I allowed to join this group, or am I to be excluded from everything because I'm actually too old for all of you? :) Your wisdom to prepare us in dealing with teenage daughters would definitely be appreciated ;)

define 'mums'. If not 100% sure where small daughter is, do I count?
