We've been twice and as GEA1984 says, each time the abra ride was the highlight of the evening. We thought it was maybe because the people we went with insisted on choosing for us, but we weren't madly impressed with the food, particularly with the prices they charge. Have never sat outside. I prefer the tapas place but you can't get there by abra!
This is such a shame to hear. I've always loved it, and we had a fab time there last new years. Definitely ring Jumeirah who, as someone said, take complaints very seriously. I once complained about the volume of the band in Al Hambra and I had several concerned calls about it.
We went there for our tea one evening... the abra there and back was the highlight.
I had red thai curry withe river prawns - i asked if these were big or little prawns (as i had no clue) anyway the waitress said they were not big ma'am. When my dish came there was one river prawn cut in half in its shell - it was the size of a flippin lobster. anyway by the time you took it out the shell there was no sauce left so i basically had plain steamed rice and a bit of overly fishy prawn meat. very dissapointed - wont be going back
Shame - we've been there many many times and have always had superb food, great service and beautiful settings. Hope it was just an off day. I would call and ak to speak to the restaurant manager. Jumeirah take complaints very seriously.
This is why I just cook all these dishes myself at home and make my own table settings and atmosphere to make it more livelier. My husband and kids are the lucky ones!
All round yours for dinner then!

Such a shame!
I have to say though I went two weeks ago and completely fell in love with the place! We got the abra from Al Qasr, had a great table (at 7.30) The duck curry I ordered was far too much and I probably managed to put away 1/3 of it (and I am [i'>NO[/i'> Kate Moss!) As my husband has told them on the phone that it was our anniversary, they presented us with a complimentary chocolate ice cream cake with 'Happy Anniversary' written in chocolate, it was divine. We then took the abra to Bahri Bar for after dinner cocktails to round off the most romantic night we've had in years.
We've got visitors next week and were thinking of going again, might re-consider though as it sounds to be as if they are having a busy spell
Oh what a shame. I only heard about this place just yesterday and it was a recommendation so I put it on my list of places to try. Will watch this thread with interest for more reviews. But certainly, for the money you paid, it does not seem worth it.
So now I know I'm not the only one!
I've been there once and was very disappointed. We sat inside as it was cold with a chill wind outside. There was no atmosphere in the place and the food was entirely average. I wouldn't go back.
A review if anyone is thinking of going there. We had visitors last week and thought a penultimate night would be having drinks at bahri bar followed by dhow to restaurant. When I booked I asked for a table outside, they said they couldn't guarantee it and tables are booked at either 6:30 or 9:30. Too early or too late of you ask me, anyway we booked for the late table but called from bahri bar at 8:45 asking if we could come earlier... No, they said, all booked but we could come to the bar, which we did, at 9:00 and lo and behold more the five empty tables outside!
So sat down eventually and ordered food, all fine but the food, when it arrived, was so below par that we refused to pay for it. It totally ruined the evening and ambience, especially since it was a celebration.
The problem with the meals was quantity and quality. I ordered the beef rendang, and it literally had four cubes of beef (and I mean cubes). This at 120 dhs without rice! It took over an hour to sort out the bill, mine wasn't the only meal that was unacceptable, the Thai chicken curry had similar amounts of chicken in it it as well.
The excuse given was that the chef had done 120 covers that night!
So, think twice about going there, it relies too heavily on the view and not what customers want.
I hate the way restaurants here try to make you eat when they want you to, and I wish they would appreciate the custom from expats.. Yes, I know they have to keep tables for hotel guests, but we are here all year round.
Not a rant, but in case anyone is thinking of going there. I have given them my complete feedback and had no response.
