We're about to get our villa fumigated by a pest control company. We have a LO and want to make sure we don't expose her to chemicals and fumes. We were told we would need to stay away from the house for 24 hours, but then after that it would be safe to re-enter. But I'm not sure if I should trust them or try and stay away longer, like 48 hours.

Just want to find out how long other people have stayed out of their homes before re-entering, and if there were any problems (ie. feeling ill after pest control, etc...)?

does the garden pest control kill off ticks? And if so do you know how long for?

We use national pest control and they say at least 4 hours before you can come in to open doors and windows. We have dogs and they say to keep them out of the garden for 24hours as they are fairly small. Why don't you ask which chemicals they are using, you will then be able to do a bit of reading and give yourself peace of mind. I return after 6 hours and there isn't too much smell. Not sure, but we havent seen ants or anything else for almost 5 months. They are just making a come back... edited by emlsnre on 23/04/2012

In retrospect, I wish we had stayed away for a couple of days, the fumes lingered on and it was ghastly no matter how many doors and windows were left open. Thankfully, we only had the outside sprayed and that was potent enough to filter into the house so cannot imagine what it's like to have indoors sprayed too...:(

We've only ever stayed outside of our villa for (recommended) four hours and the company have done this annually (villa and garden) for the last three years (a precautionary measure not necessarily required). We don't have young ones though so perhaps they would recommend staying away for a little longer. We have recommended on here before and here are the contact numbers: Tel: 04 359 99605 email: [email protected] or try Henry on 050 785 9769
