I have purchased my first HRM and have gone with a mid of the range Polar FT7.

The sales person said to wet the electrodes before the first use only. The instructions say to wet the electrodes well under running water but do not state if this is a one off action or before each use.

Reading the manual it seem like each time. Does anyone know what is correct?

All of them work on the same principal that moisture conducts your heart rate to the monitor. When your monitor is "young" often the sweat produced will provide a conduit. I've used spit or a drop of water on my finger and wiped on the receptors. If you're having difficulty getting readings check the batteries.

Yes, wet them every time. After a while, mine didn't seem to be picking up as well and it looked like I had no heartbeat intermittently during sessions so I started using conductive gel (from sports shops) and that solved the problem.

You have to wet the electrodes (just a bit of spit will do), every time before you use it, no need to soak in under running water. Thanks Shazman :)
