A Science Question

So DH has left an unopened can of drink (CC) in the car for 2 months. He got it out today - and although there was pressure in the can, it was completely empty, bar a ring of brown dregs in the bottom and the smell of CC.

So where did the liquid go? It was definitely full when he put it in there, he never opened it so it was completely sealed.

Never was hot on science at school, and DH nor DDs can answer - so where did the liquid go? How could it evaporate within a sealed metal container and completely disappear? The only thing we can think is it slowly evaporated through the seals of the ringpull over the 2 months.

Any other ideas for a Monday morning?

just goes to show what crud is in it when you see the sediment in the bottom of the can! Yum! Will stick to wine.

haha...that happened to me before. I am no scientist but it evaporated into thin air. The gas pressure within cause tiny imperfections possibly along the seams and the pull top and causing the liquid to evaporate over time. If you are really curious and have a pool, submerge the can (assuming it's still "intact") at the bottom of pool and wait for a few days to see if it fills up. :)

Probably something to do with the high sugar content. sugar has eaten all the liquid and fermented into the yucky brown sticky stuff

still find it very bizarre though in a sealed metal can!

Evaporated with the heat. but that's my point salsb, the can was sealed, so where would it go - doesn't liquid turn back to liquid when it's cooler after it's evaporated? So with cooler nights, surely it would have turned back to a liquid form? Am I just being thick and showing my lack of scientific knowledge (I did get A,B,B, in Biology, Physics and Chemistry O level way back in the 80's though!)

Where would it have evaporated to if the can was still sealed?
