I just wanted to say thank you for the helpful suggestions yesterday. It made me realise what I could have done better, with DD's induction to a nursery.

Yesterday I asked DD if I could come to summer 'camp' with her. She was very excited about this, and this morning was up early and dressed, ready to go. We sat together while she had breakfast with her group, and she spoke to another little Australian girl. We sat in the play area and talked about her time in there and she beamed about her little brother being there. She heard that there was face painting today, and kissed baby brother and I goodbye until 1.30pm today.

So to answer my own question, no I do not think my daughter, at 3 yrs 3 months is too young for a summer holiday program at a nursery. Could I have introduced her to the nursery better, yes definitely! She is only there for two weeks of half days. The delight on her face when talking to other children, running freely from one end of the room to the other and enthusiasm about getting her face painted, tells me that. I should know, I am her Mummy:)

Brilliant news and good for you for taking comments on board and doing something about your DDs hesitancy rather than just defending your choices. She'll be a happier child and you're already a happier mum - fab! :)

Amazing!!! good for you and your DD!! My DD is 2 yrs old now and is starting to talk at a slow pace!! after lots of thinking, we decided to send her to Nursery from September so that she can socialize with other kids, and hopefully will also help her to talk more, especially that i do not know anyone who have children her age:(

Thanks for posting an update! I'm glad your new approach paid off. Well done you! You're learning on the job, like we all do. ;) I know, I got caught up in the rush of life with a baby, and forgot to breath! They grow up so quickly that you forget how vulnerable they are. I would hate to go to a party on my own, with no one I knew! Thank you ladies for making me look at the situation differently:) edited by TwoKids on 14/07/2011 Well done - it's so easy to do... especially when you have a pre-schooler who appears independent - so easy to forget that they are only 3 and not 13!

It is the Little Scholar's Academy in Al Safa 1. I do not know much about it, other than my experience this week, but I am thinking of putting my DD in there for FS1, as it is likely that I will return to work. They cater for 6 months - 4 years:)

That's great! It is important for young children to socialise with children of their own age. Look at how the young of other species develop social skills, by playing with their peers under the watchful eye of adults and not always the parents? Maybe not the comparison that everyone will like but it's true! My children only went to playgroup from 3 until 5 years for 2 mornings a week plus a toddler group day with mum. The rest of the time they were with me, grandparents or in a group of mums and tots for coffee afternoons in each other's homes until they started school and the whole programme of education plus other after school activities like dancing, Brownies and Cubs etc. Result? 2 well adjusted confident young adults! Glad to hear that mum and DD are happier!

That's great TwoKids - I dipped in and out the closed thread yesterday and really felt for you. Parenting is a tough job, whatever the age group you have - there are great times and trying times. There is no right or wrong way, each family dynamic is different and what suits one doesn't suit another. Wait til she's a teenager!!
