Just moved to DSO, over summer, got my DEWA bill for 2 months and it was 8500AED, which is a lot but we thought, fair enough we've had the AC on the go all day etc etc. So this month, we decided to keep all AC off most of the time unless we're in a room, lights off unless we're in a room, and were trying to be very conservative this month including only using washer/dryer/dishwasher when its not peak time... anyway got the bill and its over 6000AED. its mainly electricity charge as well.... anyway I really want to know if this is the norm for the villas here or if I've got something wrong... any insight please :(

Yes DEWA have defo gone up for us too. Our recent bills have been just over AED 2200. Looking back at the bills, last year same months were half the costs. We are in the twins, with all the windows. I have noticed that the fuel surchage has gone up from 4.4 to 7 which is nearly double. I asked DEWA to come out and check the property, DEWA seems to say everything is fine. So we just continue to pay the higher charges :(

Hi there - I had the same issue - first month (Jul/Aug was 8500). When we discovered this we called DEWA and they came to check and said everything was normal. We did have AC on though, and I think way too much probably since we were new. Plus, lights, plus maid's work, plus brand new grass and ran irrigation system 3 times x 4mins a day and have a big garden. We made a massive change midway through the 2nd month and dropped the bill to 4700. So, off with the aircon during the day (bit was easier as kids now back to school). Maid starting hanging clothes outside to dry instead of using dryer. Very conscious of water/lights etc. Should receive next bill anyday now and hope it has dropped even more. We are in a freestanding traditional 5 bedroom villa with a large garden. I know of others in the same, but modern and smaller garden who spend on average 4500.

We were in Cedre Villas (phase 1) and our monthly DEWA was usually around 1000, slightly higher in summer but around 700 in winter. We had no irrigation though. HTH

Yes, I am in Cedre Villas, and yes, my bills have been very high, although not quite as high as yours. Makes you feel like crying, doesn't it? I never quite got to the bottom of why my bills were so high, but think it may be due to the irrigation in the garden? I thought this article might make for interesting reading: http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/higher-utility-bills-anger-dubai-families I love the last line 'DEWA did not respond to requests for comment' !!!!!!

def get someone called out to check your compressors on cedre villas acs. I didn't even think of it until I read the post below - after another huge bill last month we got ours looked at and there has been a big drop in charges. Crappy small ac units for such big properties

Hi there, JWFI came out to us on Saturday, and found that two of our AC's had major problems which would definitely contribute to the increase of DEWA bills. Apparently the compressors have been working overtime, so I'll be getting them back to fix those ASAP. Also, because our AC's don't work very well in the house (apparently they're not really big enough for the size house) we tend to put them on 18 and leave it on until it cools down then turn them off, which is apparently what can also cause a big increase in the bills, so their advice is its best to keep the ac's set to 23-25. I'm going to give all that a go and hopefully they'll come down from the 6000 we're being charged.

We also live in DSO and ours went up loads this summer compared to last, it was double what we had paid for last year, with bills 2-3000 and our lifestyle the same as this time last year. This summer DEWA increased their prices though - http://www.thenational.ae/business/energy/dubai-utility-bills-increase-by-dh2bn http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/higher-utility-bills-anger-dubai-families and we're definitely feeling it. So although it can be worth checking consumption, the unit rate increased hence the mahoosive jump! :(

Our tenant called JWFI this morning and apparently she was around the 30th caller this week complaining about their DEWA bill going through the roof! They were going round at 10.30 this morning. I haven't heard back from her yet but I'll post when I do (now that I can finally log back in...).

Sorry JWFI is Jim will fix it. Number is 800 fix (800 349) Just the usual cost of 100 call out fee and 200 per hour. But the guy on the ph seemed to think it'd only take an hour so I'd be looking at 300. The guy there was saying they've had a lot of calls about the same thing, DEWA prices are up but they've had 50% with problems they found that increase DEWA and 50% that they didn't find anything. I will be checking with DEWA and getting a professional (JWFI) in to check the house and hopefully find a Fixable problem. edited by AdviceSeeker on 06/10/2011

I need to organise that too. Last summer our highest bill was around 1800dhs for a 2-bed in Springs, no grass, small pool (never chilled or heated). Housing fee was 750dhs. This year our tenant's latest bill is 2700dhs, with the housing fee only 313dhs. AS, how much are JWFI charging for the check?

Just in case anyone is interested in doing this themselves, I've just called out JWFI to come and check all the electricity and water to see if they can find a problem, will update once they've come. Whats JWFI? I need someone to check out whats going in my place. I live in a 3 bedroom and my bills in the past 4 months are between 2200 and 4300! In shorooq in Mirdif. I am constantly fighting with DEWA!

Thanks everyone, I'm going to have to figure out what the problem is as surely DEWA won't take any responsibly. Such a pain, but glad to know its not the norm here as I'd be straight out this place. @DubaiCat, please let me know if you figure out why thats happening in the springs and I'll defo update if I figure out the problem.

Our tenant in Springs is having the same problem. I know it's not DSO but it's the electricity that's bumping the bill up and we just can't work out how or why. There's no way she, living on her own and out working all day, uses more electricity than we did when I was home a lot and had the a/c on all the time. I'm utterly stumped.

Hi We are in Cedre Villas, and our bills are nowhere near that! Sounds like there is a problem somewhere.

Hi, We live in Cedre Villas and this is definately not the average rate! Check your readings. He had problems in the past... since the majority of people living in DSO are pilots and not paying for their DEWA, DEWA tend to only come around every 3 months to do a reading which then put us in the maximum rage and then get overcharged. My husband went to DEWA and after a long debate they reduced the amount. I know that this is not the case with you as you receive a bill 2 months in a row but if I were you I will keep a close eye on the reading. Just a suggestion. edited by Niccy01 on 05/10/2011
