What did you think of the concert ladies? I went and felt that although he is a very good musician, it was a little bit boring. I noticed lots of people leaving early too which is not always a good sign. Anyone else have any thoughts to share?

Amazing concert, loved every second of watching him and the band. He played for over 2 and a half hours! he's also quite a comedian, had us in stitches with his little jokes. Love him. Watching a genius at work is certainly not "boring"!

Have nothing but praise for this event. Enjoyed it thoroughly, what a star he is - wonderful concert. Must have been lucky or just up in the clouds, but didn't notice any over the top drunkenness, despite being down in the general admission bit! And agree with Janesul - organisation was second to none - the buses were great, no hanging around - well done to iMAN organisers.

just the most amazing concert, he is a legend. agree with jane, we didn't stop dancing and singing throughout, we certainly weren't rugby 7's standard (can't stand that) and we're not boozy brunch types, but we had a few drinks and an amazing time!!!

Well said Blue Skies. I have nothing against people having a good time and was there with a large group of friends myself-it's the Rugby 7's type behaviour which resulted in beer sloshed in my face and a trampled on foot that leave me cold but am not going to let that detract from Stevie's magnificence!

Thoroughly enjoyed that concert although a 9:30 start was a bit late IMO... he sure is a legend! loved all the old stuff towards the end, he really knows how to work the crowd.... Shame that some people failed to appreciate they were at a concert and not the rugby 7s though...i am referring to a huge guy (plus his 3 mates) who could barely keep thier eyes open through boozing let alone actually stand up, making cow noises which i think i decyphered "mooooooooooooore" at the end of the concert... having moved forward twice to avoid being trampled as he tried to dance but i think it was more of a stability stumble i had had enough and put my hand on his back (while he was 2 inches from me) and told him to * off.... his mates took him away after that. (it wouldnt have been hard to defend myself if he had taken offense, but i just couldnt help it)..... great concert past that....Pentel was throwing some impressive shapes too!!!!

For those that are interested the 'Spanish' set that earlier posters are referring to was a piece by Chick Corea.

He was FANTASIC, such a genuis and an absolute legend .... I just loved his sense of humour and the way he can laugh at himself and make jokes at his own expense .... the bit when the guy was helping him get the right setting on the keyboard and it was taking so long he said that if he took off his glasses he'd do it himself .... so funny!!! It was my sister's birthday yesterday and she saw Stevie last yr so I called her during the Happy Birthday song - it made her day ..... Such a fantastic night and yes I would have liked him to have started on time as at 28 wks pregnantm standing in the golden circle section I was ready to collapse by the end, not to mention having told the babysitter in the hotel tat I'd be back earlier. All in all a fantastic experience. ETA - what an amazing entrance too!!!!! edited by CurlyOB on 19/03/2011

I had a fantastic time at the concert last night. I've never been to an event anywhere in the world that was as well organised and stress free. We got the bus from Dubai and that was totally pain free, there were no queues to get into the venue when we arrived and minimal ones for the F&B stands. The sound was great and the high definition screens could be seen from everywhere in the stands. I don't see having a fun time and a lark about with your friends and enjoying a concert and appreciating the music and the artistry as being mutually exclusive. I've not laughed so much as I did last night in a long time and I don't think that we were disrespecting in any way the genius that is Stevie Wonder, we were just caught up in the magic of the whole event.

I am not the biggest fan, but went to concert and had an amazing time he really is a talented guy and yes the show could of started sooner. Ladies why do you feel you have to comment on how other women were dressed for goodness sake ?

I loved their take on Spain by Chick Corea - a jazz classic which showed off all the musical talent in the group!! But I guess not everyone would appreciate it if they were only wanting pure Stevie...

Sorry maybe my post came over a bit too harsh. I thought he was a great performer and good value for money considering the length of time he was on stage. I agree with all the comments about the band too. It was during the Spanish bit i think that there seemed to be lots of people around us talking and not at all interested on what was happening on stage.

I just can't tell you how much we enjoyed the concert last night. We were fortunate enough to be right at the very front and had an amazing experience. I have to say I never even noticed the time we waited as the music being played before Stevie was so brilliant! Sorry jules16 but to describe Stevie Wonder as boring? Never! He is a [b'>genius[/b'> - one of the original Motown artists who at 60, is still knocking the tunes out with real soul. There are a great many 'slebs' who could learn a few things from this man - I thought it was an absolutely brilliant night - well organised, clear signage and easy to get out to walk back to the hotel where we stayed for the night.

thought Stevie was FANTASTIC, and his band were also just incredible. I agree, it could have started earlier and the grandstand seats were quite uncomfortable (esp being 34 weeks pregnant!), but the music was faultless! Agree on the people drinking, we had a group of middle aged south africans in front of us (by no means a comment on south africans by the way!) that just drank and drank and then were being so rowdy and obnoxious, esp one guy who kept commanding all of us around to "get up and dance" ....aarrgghhh so annoying!! PS - how funny was the proposal at the end, what was that guy on??!!

I thoroughly enjoyed his performance and so did my children - but then they know his music and have been brought up on Motown! He is a musical genius and the band were of the extraordinary calibre that one would expect to be performing with him. At concerts such as this in Dubai there is always the contingent that go along to drink mostly, get in the way and treat it like a social event. Sadly they were not there to appreciate the enormous talent of Stevie Wonder and celebrate a man that has done so much good work, particularly for race relations, throughout the world. As far as people leaving early are concerned, many do this so that they do not get caught up in traffic. We stayed until the end and then drove back to Ras al Khaimah.

enjoyed the show, he's a great entertainer. Only gripe would be that it should have started earlier, say 8.30pm. Did see a few people over dressed or not appropriately dressed, always good for a laugh :) edited by HairyHaggis on 19/03/2011

Enjoyed Stevie .... so much talent and joy but got fedup of being trampled on by people who couldn't care less whether or not there was someone on the stage and were just wandering around aimlessly...often drunk and aggressive or constantly taking photographs of themselves and their overdressed friends in various inane poses or talking on their mobiles loudly...seems like enjoying the present moment is difficult for some! PS SORRY to whine...often frustrated by the crowds at these events...of course I'm PERFECT!;) Oh gawd, PLEASE DON'T apologise! It is the bane of my existence this self posing photo thing and self importance, particularly when Stevie Wonder (!) is singing for your - he's brilliant talent and it's as though they were given tickets and decided to go because the club entry was 50dirhams but this was free (and they had no idea who he was). there was a group of 4 girls there, dressed in the shortest dresses and the highest heels I have ever seen, watching them tryng to walk on the grass was just comical. I mean really, coming to a concert dressed like that!! It wasnt very warm either!!!

i really enjoyed it, thought that the spanish music thing went on a little long though. I loved all the old songs which he did towards the end. I did laugh a little when he said he wished he could do 2 nights here and give the 2nd nights profits to Japan... if he was that concerned, could he not have given the 1st nights profits??!

Brilliant. Last seen at the Nelson Mandela concert at Wembley Stadium in 1989 and he improves with age. So good to hear an artist who actuallys sounds better live than on an album and is not scared to jam in the presence of a large audience. He obviously loves his music and wants to share his enthusiasm with everyone.

Absolutely brilliant, a musical genius, was able to ad-lib and jam his way out of anything. A great sound except for one moment towards the end when the speakers malfunctioned for a moment but was quickly rectified. This is what you pay for, Stevie enjoying what he loves and does best. This was his only live gig, he is not touring. I thought he was bl**dy brilliant and could watch him enjoy himself for hours. Brilliant sense of humour and has more energy than most 20 year olds!!

Hmmm interesting. I'm not a huge fan, just happened to be offered a ticket last minute so went along. I thought he was excellent. He had amazing energy, lying on his back, on the stage, playing that guitar/keyboardy thingy was impressive! We stayed right until the end and had a really good night.
