Simple you are probably right :-) i was told this about Yorkshire Pudding tins too.. haha The French say it about omelette pans, too - they should just be wiped off and lightly oiled (and they should only be used for omelettes).

My Nana always told me not to wash a teapot just rinse it out.... ( Not sure why) :-) Yes, mine did, too - it was for the sake of the flavour of the tea. Mind you, this was in the old-fashioned brown china pots, not yer new-fangled glass ones!

Second washing powder, leave to soak overnight. Also works for dried/burnt on food in casserole dishes etc. edited by hilbos on 10/08/2011

Am going to try the baking powder and toothbrush approach as it's the spout that is the worst bit. Will let you know how it goes.

Biological washing powder in botttom, boiling water fill till coming out of spout leave over night, rinse, no rubbing or scrubbing, if worried about extra soap etc put pot through dishwasher afterwards. Another solution is to use oxi powder, same way... both ways remove tannin brilliantly even on a neglected teapot, sparkling new looking pot at granny's house ;-)

Jif as last resort, but obviously you would put rinse and through the dishwasher afterwards. Jiff can't soak into the glass so it won't stay on it afterwards. Try the other things first by all means. Essentially you really need a very mild abrasive, baking soda, castor sugar etc might be worth a try if you are worried salt will scratch, let us know which worked :)

A paste of baking soda and lemon juice or vinegar should do it. If the stains are really stubborn dissolve denture tablets in it overnight Denture tabs work a treat, I use to rob my Grans to clean my jewels, makes the little ole diamonds sparkle! I can second the denture tablets.....

I use sterilising tablets to clean our china tea mugs, you can buy them in Boots.

Baking soda in a thick paste with a little water will work. I'd be nervous about salt scratching the glass. :)

really good for tea stains on porcelain/china is table salt, rub it in with your finger, I suspect it would work on glass too, if not, JIF does :).
