You have all been so helpful maybe you can help with this.

Received my Thiqa card last week. I am foreign. We live in Dubai but the family book is registered in AD. My card does not say anything about co-pay/private vs government hospital. Called Thiqa this week they have that I am registered but do not have specifics as to my coverage yet as I am new and DH has no idea. Does anyone here who is foreign know what the general restrictions or rules will be for a foreign wife on Thiqa?

TY!

TY both, yes it is really very confusing. Ok, so that I understand: Because my DH is an AD local we have this Thiqa card that gives us free access oinly to govt hospitals in AD but NOT private hospitals in AD. And even though we physically live in Dubai, we are not covered by any health scheme here fully because we are technically Abu Dhabi locals. Phew. Is that right? My husband is local, and the family book is from Alain(part of Abu Dhabi). I am in the back of the book. You also have full paid access to private hospitals in Abu Dhabi as well. The only difference is that you pay 50% of any prescription written by a Dr in a private hospital. All checkups, lab work, etc are all fully covered. I have not tried to use any facility in Dubai, but have been told that if it is out of Abu Dhabi then there is some type of co-pay in the hospitals listed in the Thiqa handbook. If it is not listed in the Thiqa handbook, and outside of Abu Dhabi, that they will not pay up front, but will reimburse some portion after the fact. Again, though, only what I have been told and not tried to use anything outside of Abu Dhabi up to this point.

http://www.thiqa.ae/thiqaApp/loadProviderSearchPage.action?request_locale=en Is this it? WHy do they have clinics listed in other Emirates then? Or do you have to pay something? I don't have it. We have nothing to do with AD anyway really. We have Enaya (but we are not post office workers!). edited by Al Quwatain on 13/01/2012 Thanks for posting this. I was told that it cannot be used in Dubai but there are clinics on the list in Dubai. That does not make sense. AQ is right, WB. It is best to call up an individual clinic in Dubai and ask them what their policy is regarding the Thiqa card. And then let us know on here, because I may have been given misinformation. I will indeed! :-) Thank you all

Or you could call a clinic/hospital on their list, but in DUbai, and ask them what the policy is. Yep have done. No dice 'It depends we need to see your card'

I will let the knowledgeable ladies answer in depth but I have "been told" that is to mean I have heard that you cna use it in other hospitals but it will require some sort of co-pay.

Anon, I've not heard of Enaya (?) I just searched it but it said it was for employees of DHA - does this also cover us? W - here is what they told me - if your DH is Abu Dhabi local, or your DH is non AD local byt working in AD, then Thiqa gives you free access to public and private in AD (maybe a small fee for some hospitals in AD - private, that is). To get cover in Dubai, you have to have a DOHMs card which gives you cover as a wife of a local. This is ambiguous as it seems some wives are given it and some are told it's not available. We've tried to work out whether it was connected to being in the book or not, but have yet to work this out. You will definitely be covered for maternity in Dubai public hospitals, though, as a locals wife (so that's the whole maternity package, from first OB/GYN appt, through to and including delivery. Hi Amy. I don't know much about Enaya other than that it is the health insurance plan for a lot of people who work for the Dubai government, like post office workers, for example. I don't know if you have it. I definitely do not.

Answer to Question 1: Thiqa has a network and they have a network guide. You need to ask them for the guide just in case you're ever in AD. Then you'd know where to go. Question 2: Didn't you say you have another health insurance? You ladies are brilliant I cannot thank you enough. This is all great info that I could not get from anyone else! We do have private insurance from DH's work but of course only BUPA allows hospitals like Amer. Hos. to charge directly the rest make you pay and then get reimbursed which is a real hassle. We thought it would be good to have both. But now I see having local govt health card only is helpful if you are physically living in the city in which your book is. Frustrating ;-)

I went through the same questions about a year ago and I concluded that Thiqa is not accepted anywhere in Dubai. The Dubai government's health insurance scheme is called Enaya. Because my DH goes to Abu Dhabi quite often, he is able to make use of his Thiqa card.

I am a foreigner and have Thiqa and live in Dubai. My understanding of Thiqa is that I can use it but I'd have to go to Abu Dhabi to use it. Because I never go to Abu Dhabi, it is of no use to me. Fortunately, we have another private health insurance plan that I can use in Dubai. HTH. TY for responding, yeah I think it is confusing because some people say you can use it everywhere only that in Dubai you have to pay something but I cannot seem to get an answer on where that would be, which hospitals or how much. Of course, DH is useless on the topic. We do have other healthcare from his work but I thought if this was another option why not try it out. Well, they sure don't make it easy!

My DH is Dubai and we live in Dubai so I don't have Thiqa. But, as default, as the wife of an Abu Dhabi local you get free access to both public and private hospitals, in Abu Dhabi only (I believe). Am not sure the technicality of you having to have it registered as AD wife or Dub wife, but if it's not on the record either take the book when you go (if you're in it), or take your DHs pport and your pport (showing he is your husband/sponsor) (I also had to take a marriage certificate in one case to show we were married). [b'>'Oaf'[/b'> hahahaha - you are so married to a local! loool Wow thank AmyAus82, really helpful. Teehee hee hee "Oaf" yes indeed! :-)
