I FOUND THE MAGGI KABSA MIX! It's a Labor Day miracle! 2 packets at Carrefour in Mazaya Center -- bought both of them, of course. Can't wait to use it along with your recipe, SEY83!

I've loved all the MAGGI spice packets I've used so far -- but then again, I wouldn't the first clue what to put in a homemade kabsa mix! ishehere, what do you use?

SEY, I made the Maggi Kabsa per your instructions, using a 900g fresh chicken cut into smallish pieces and 3 cups jasmine rice and 1 pkt Kabsa seasoning. I think I messed up with the water, rice was a tad mushy. Didn't brown the chicken in oven. My maid was inspired to add a topping of sauteed raisins and fried onions. Only 1 of my kids ate it. Even though I come from an ethnicity that is famous for using spices liberally, I found the Kabsa seasoning over-powering for the quantities of raw ingredients used, all I could taste was the cloves, cinnamon, cardamom. Will adjust next time. Personally would never use a packet mix of anything - Kabsa spices aren't that complicated and you can find good recipes for it....

Dangerous Blonde, great that the Iftar was a success! Wow, did you really make your own sambosek? I would've cheated with frozen or ordered from a restaurant! You can add salt to the frying oil to stop the eggplant absorbing so much. I guess maybe not to everyon'e taste though and I'm sorry it didnt work out.

I cooked it as well, although I made it in my rice cooker and added chicken portions later when the rice was cooked (cooked in my own sauce). I found that the Knorr kabsa was really quite salty, and tbh it tasted like it came from a packet. It also was a wee bit too spicy for the kids. I think I am going to try and recreate the kabsa using the spices from the cupboard and not from a ready made packet and see how that goes. I have a recipe I found online. I only just read the comments on this, so sorry for the late reply. Alismum I have never tried the Knorr spices, but it doesnt surprise me that they taste like they came from a packet. I haven't found anything Knorr to taste decent at all. Please try it again with the Maggi ones if you find it. Also the Maggi ones aren't spicy. I don't cook spicy food at all, and my one year old happily eats this when I cook it.

Sooooo, while shopping today -- found what I think is probably EVERY single Maggi mix EXCEPT the kabsa. Bought the Knorr to try (plus several of the different Maggi mixes). My search continues!

Try the kabseh recipe on the syrianfoodie.blogspot.com blog - it's lovely. But it's just plain rice, so brown chicken and add it in at some point.

Does anyone have a simple recipe for Arabic spicy tomato vermicelli soup? Ive had this with minced lamb in it too, ive seen a few recipes online but if anyone makes this regularly i'd love to know how, as its yum! I made it last night, thought it tasted pretty similar to what I have at my inlaws house, albeit slightly spicier: Fried one onion and 2 garlic cloves in olive oil When soft I added about a handful of mince and one celery stick diced up into little pieces and a couple of bay laves When the the meat was cooked, I added about 2 litres of stock and about 5 tablespoons of tomato paste When the water started to boil, in went about a cup of vermicelli and dried herbs - oregano, dried parsley, 1 tsp paprika and just under a teaspoon of salt When done, I garnished with fresh coriander, lots of crushed black pepper and about half a tsp of chilli powder This was enough to serve 6 I hope I've given you accurate measurements but you may have to play around with it a little to your taste Yum sounds good! Keep them recipes coming ladies I'm liking this lol:)

Did anyone find the Maggie Kabsa mix? I'm still looking.I haven't found in the shops recently, plan to look in C4 in Mazaya Ctr. BUT I found 1 pkt in my cupboard when digging out a Maggi broccoli soup mix for today's Iftar! Will try using SEY83's method since the Maggi instructions just look v wrong. Hope my little boys like it!

Yeah I mentioned the other recipe that they have on the back. I thought it sounded a bit odd and so I've never tried it - I thought my method made more sense! I'm sure it's equally as good though, it's just a different style of cooking than what I'm used to. Good luck cooking today!

I have been to a few shops for this Kabsa mix as well. Can't seem to find it. I wonder if there's another brand apart from Maggie. Will have a look in Marina C4 if I get chance. Knorr do a kabsa mix as well. I haven't tried it though as I'm a fan of the Maggi mix and will be disappointed if it doesn't taste as good. TDB let us know how it goes cooking it today. I seem to have sent a bunch of people on a wild goose chase to find the spices, so I'm hoping you're going to come back and say that it was worth the effort!

Bureek tagine is delicious, it's not a main course but it's a starter or side dish, this is how you make it: One pack of Filo Pastry 100g butter 1 cup of corn oil Meat Filling: 500g of minced meat 1 onion 1/4 cup parsley 1tsp of nutmeg (but i put a tablespoon for more of flavour) 1st of mixed spices (again i put a tablespoon depending on your taste buds) salt to your taste Sauce: 1 egg and 1 cup of milk mixed together with salt and pepper too 1 cup of stock If you have guests I would cook the meat filling the night before so that the next day all you need to do is half the filo pastry and each paper you brush it with butter and oil. when you reach half way of the filo pastry you put the cooked meat inside and then layer it with the remaining filo pastry. Cut the bureek as you would for the guest before you cook it so that the liquid will soak into the meat. Cook in the oven for 10 minutes until golden, then add a cup of stock and the egg and milk mix. Let it cook for another 20 to 30 minutes until the liquid has evaporated. Hope this makes sense and helps :)

BOO!! Didn't find the Maggi kabsa spices at Spinneys!!!! Didn't find it the kabsa mix either at the Union Coop. I did buy the shish tawook and shwarma spice mix and another one chicken garlic and ginger spice mix. I have to admit that the Maggi kabsa mix is one of those fly off the shelf products. I have struggled to find it at times myself, so usually when I do I stock up. Don't give up hope though, at least its locally produced so stocks get replenished sooner rather than later - it's a recipe worth waiting for. I'm not taking credit for this super recipe, it's all about the spices (but you will remember and thank me when you do find it :D )! Thanks for the tip, I will be sure to buy in BULK when I find it -- hopefully none of ya'll head to that particular store after me, whenever I manage to locate it! :-) I checked the Union on Wasl yesterday. It was not there.

I don't mind you asking at all, I'm just nervous why ur asking lol! Have I said something wrong? I'm Syrian, specifically from Aleppo. If Aleppo is known for anything then it's good food! I absolutely love cooking, I'm the one that gathers all of our friends over and cooks for them. Hehe, I just thought maybe Saudi?

When I first got married, I had no idea how to cook anything let alone Arabic food. Hubby is Syrian and I came across this brilliant blog that has easy (yet delicious) recipes with simple instructions: http://syrianfoodie.blogspot.com/ I've tried loads of things from here, including kabseh, baba ghanouj, shanklish salad, cheese fatayer, sambousek, pan fried sea bass & warm green lentils, lamb shanks, vermicelli rice, kebab hindi, cherry kebab..pretty much everything basically. Enjoy! x

Right I'm making Kabsa and Bademjan dishes as per your below suggestions :) Plus soup, fattoush salad, sambousek, dates, labneh, dessert. Do you think I need anything else? Any side or veg dishes? There will be 6 of us. Thanks so much! On the hunt for kabsa seasoning :) I think you're good, I wouldn't make anything additional to what you have listed. Good look witht he hunt for the kabsa mix! Btw if you find it, on the back they list another way of making it - I haven't tried making it that way so I'm not sure if it's any good, it seemed a bit strange to me, so I went with my way. Let us know how it goes!
