I have a recipe that has buttermilk as a key ingredient.

I've never seen buttermilk on sale here. Is there anything I can substitute for it?
Thanks

full fat milk! lol! My favourite recipe calls for buttermilk and in fact, every cupcake recipe in my favourite book does too (can yer guess what it is yet?!) and they all turn out gorgeous with full fat milk. Might have to try them with laban one day...

Ah, thanks everyone. Will get some Laban and try the alternative too to see which is preferable. ;) Laban basically is buttermilk. It works perfectly and is cheap as chips. :)

Laban if I have it handy, if not, mix some white vinegar and milk.

Laban works well. Or make your own (1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar to each cup milk - it will curdle after 5/10 minutes).

Mix some lemon juice into plain yoghurt, leave it to stand for about 10mins, and you've got your buttermilk.
