Growing up in oz it was a very common word. You get to school when no one is there, 'I was a nigel this morning' (by yourself/no friends) Someone is sitting alone, others yell 'Nigel!' It is also a name, hence auto correct changing it from nigel to Nigel, an Indian name if I'm correct (we later had an Indian boy start whose name was Nigel, poor fella) hahaha bought back memories!! I used to have a crush on a boy in primary school called Nigel, funnily enough he was from Australia. He must really hate his parents for calling him that! I wonder if he turned out to be a *right Nigel*?
