We took our DD to Favourite Things in Marina Mall. She got a certificate and a little pouch with a lock of her hair in it too to remember her first haircut! We got her hair cut at 40 days and the lady was great with her. Did they do it with a blade razor? I was told that it's supposed to be done with it only. Silly I know, but can't help it. No, just with an electric razor. My DH was supposed to be the one to do it with a normal blade razor, but chickened out! He decided in the end not do it at all, so I made the decision for him and took DD to the salon. He held her and that was that. Her hair was starting to get patchy anyway, so it was a better decision in the long run. Now all that dark hair has gone and she is growing lovely light brown hair.

Spoke to my Emirati Friend. there is a barbers shop next to the Princess Haya centre in Umm Suqeim, they picked up the guy and he came to the house and shaved the baby's head. He brought a pouch with him with all the equipment in it but my friend father in law had his own blade that they have used and he insisted that they use that ..

My mother in law shaved my sister in law's head when she was a baby - not for religious reasons but because she says that if you do this then it will grow back thick - I don't know how much truth there is in this or whether it is just an old wives tale but my sister in law does have lovely thick glossy hair!

Just to add, they will come to your place but u will have to pick n drop them n u can use your own razor too. It can be done in your home in a better sanitized environment, I didn't know this when I got dd head done.

Got my dd head shaven exactly at 40 days after birth. I tried to stall it as much as possible but after repeated reminders from in laws, my husband just took her to his barber at oud metha n got it done. I went along too, n I planned on stopping it if I'm not comfortable but really these barbers are experts. He did it in no time, as he was used to it. Just ask for a Muslim barber if he has done it before.

I don't think any of the good, 'safe' places will do it with a blade. We took our LO to the place mushypeas mentioned. Its in Jumeirah Centre, the blue one. They did it with an electronic razor. We had it done properly with a hand-held blade in our home country when she was 3 months old (my dad did it). You might find some desi barbers in deira, karama, satwa etc who will do it properly, but I couldn't bring myself to trust them with my few-days-old baby.

i'd like to have my newborn's hair completely shaven. anybody knows a place from where i can get this, as all the children salon's are offering only machine cut When you say machine cut do you expect your new born babys head to have a hand razor used instead? You could easily buy a small electric razor from any chemist or go to any salon here and have it done.

You need to take the baby to one of the Barbers.. There is one on Jumeira Beach Road where they have the little tea shop which is always croweded. well before Pizza hut . Friends of mine took the baby to them.
