Where can I unlock/Jailbreak my iphone 4s in Dubai? And how much does it usually costs?

I had my BB unlocked in Compume in MOE on the first floor. I had it locked to the Zain Bahrain network and they unlocked it for 200aed. I guess that's a bit pricey but prefer that over those little shops.

Unlocking and jailbreaking are two different things. For example, if you had an iPhone tied to the Vodafone network in the UK and wanted to use it here full-time, you'd need to unlock it so it would work on the Etisalat or Du networks. You won't need to do this if you by the phone yourself through a retailer, only if you got it on a subsidised contract with a network operator. Jailbreakng is when you want to install third-party apps by freeing your iPhone from the constraints that Apple automatically place on their devices. It gives you much more freedom to fully customise your device to your own specifications, but it will immediately void any warranties, so be careful. I've not done either over here, but I'd imagine most of the small independent IT shops in Bur Duba (Computer Street)i and Karama will be able to help. Don't waste your time with the major retailers in New Dubai though as they definitely won't do this. Edit: Give cellfixx.com, CelMetro.com, Dubai-Mobiles.net, or Technowiseservice.com a try. They will probably offer these services and will usually pick the phone up from you. edited by HereComesTheSun on 23/12/2012 edited by HereComesTheSun on 23/12/2012

just curious... why do you need to get it unlocked? i was thinking of getting an iphone for christmas but i thought you can just put your sim card in them... is this not the case? anyone know if i buy and use an iphone here if i can also use it back in the states? Depends where you buy it....it has to be sim-free, otherwise you will need it unlocked (and usually you'll have to pay more for sim-free) If you buy it with a sim card included, or from one of the operators here (Du or Etisalat) you wont be able to switch the sim. Also, of the 4S has IOS 5 or later you may struggle to get someone to unlock it....I tried several places when my DH brought his over, and noone would touch it because it had the latest software.....however i eventually downloaded something from online (cost about 20 euros) and did it myself in about 10 minutes.

There is a place in mall of the emirates, called "minutes" that does this. (first floor, near Carrefour) I think they charge around 150 aed.
