so the sponsor gets up to 100k and those who employ her also get up to 100K? Quite a good earner for Dubai Police especially if they get a whole week worth of employers... no, the police do not get the money. you know what i mean....... that's an awful lot of fines stemming from one person. it costs a lot to house the offenders, and pay for repatriation if no sponsor is found etc....all staff have to be paid. I know - am not criticising. Just thinking that if they follow the illegal maid for a week and she has 2 clients a day - 6 days a week - that's 12 clients + sponsor..... a lot of money from one illegal maid.... that's all. I knew an illegal maid who's brother was coming over to help her as she had so much work!!!

Go visit Al Aweer jail and you will soon see how seriously the authorities take working illegally in the UAE. The fines for those employing are from 50,000 dhs up. The consequences for the maid are jail, deportation and life bans, worth it? NO I hear that the fine is for the sponsor ( even though they didnt know that the maid was working illegally ) and the one who hired her ! all parties get in trouble. there was an article in the news that some banker in the DIFC was taken away from his desk and escorted to the police station because he had an illegal maid !! its not just a big fine, you can get deported as well. the sponsor will be fined and it will go to court you will have to give up your passport whilst the court procedures take place, and these are not quick. the person who was using the maid the same a fine and court case etc, and whilst this goes on the maid will be put in jail, and then usually they get deported at the end of the court case.

taxi drivers, watchmen and gardeners get paid a good fee for reporting them. And don't think for a minute that they will not be caught. Some maids are watched and followed for a few weeks so they can arrest quite a few people in one time, all connected to one maid. I knew a maid who was earning over Dh5000 pm doing part time work.

What is the probability of the police knowing a maid is making extra AEDs in someone's house? In the time I have been here police have never been to my apartment and I almost every week get under my apartment door a hand written note from a maid offering her services.... Is it really a big risk or it is the same as other things in Dubai i.e. not having alcohol license, living with your boyfriend, etc. that a lot of people does and nothing happens? Just asking. Do a search on here and you will find that a lot of women on this forum have been caught. In our building security dont allow it and if they find your housemaid in an apartment that she doesnt reside in they will call the police. They check the floors too ! edited by mushypeas on 20/10/2011

Your right alot of people do do it and its a risk that they take and its their choice to take that risk but when you sponsor a maid and she put's your family risk that isn't the sponsors choice.

But the maid is taking risks on our behalf, impacting us, without our agreement.

It is cheeky. We've taken on the responsibility and the expense to hire someone legally and it just chaps my hide to see people wanting to circumvent this - and possibly get myself and our housemaid in serious trouble as a result! To be honest, even with all the expense on our part to get her, I actually wouldn't mind her having the opportunity to earn extra income...provided her work here was completed - and if it were LEGAL!

It's also fuelled by the maid mafia and their hi tech rumour mills aka facebook, mobile phones....oh and gloating.

I seem to hear of more and more people hiring maids illegally - people don't want to commit to a year's sponsorship in these times BUT they want to use your maid..very cheeky!

OMG. Don't get me started. All I want to say about the madams STILL trying to hire illegal part time maids is that someone was indignantly taken away by the police from his workplace office recently for hiring an illegal maid. The heavy handed crack down DOES happen. Yes, they have to weigh up the risks and decide whether it is worth it - and this had better be informed risk taking. What did you get banned for AS? edited by Sugarbeach on 19/10/2011 No idea :( although I have a sneaky feeling it probably had to do with the p/t work info

Its extremely annoying, and you're like the badie for not allowing it, however you are right as it is risky for both you and her.
