I wouldn't feed during the night, there is no need for this after a baby reaches 4kg. I wouldn't necessarily agree with this given that 10% of babies are born weighing over 4kg, or does that mean they immediately don't need to be fed at night???

Wow, thats sounds like a tough day! My dd woke at 7am BF,milk at 8.30am then slept till 11am, milk then lunch at 12.30pm then slept till 3pm milk and then play till dinner at 5.30pm and milk at 6.45pm bed at 7 pm and slept right through. Make sure your bub is getting enough daytime sleep as this is what disturbs bubs the most at night as they dont sleepwell if overtired. Look for sleep cues as maybe being put for a nap when overtired and thats why only sleeping for such a short time. Sleep cues include sneezing, rubbing face and yawning. I wouldn't feed during the night, there is no need for this after a baby reaches 4kg. If wakes at night i would show them their dummy or thumb and encourage to settle themselves even if this takes many nights practice and up the quantity of daytime feed if you feel this is nescessary. Comfort feeding may work in the short term but you are not teaching the baby good sleep habits and giving yourself enough of a break esp if you have another child. Iam a great advocate of Cecile De Scaly (midwife) try giving her a ring.

Thanks for the detailed response Pentel. I offered her solids after she was 6 months old and she didn't take them right away. She started eating really enthusiastically when she was 6 months and 2 weeks. And now, a month later, she is gobbling up solids which are not pureed but mostly mashed with a fork and also enjoying some finger snacks. I am not at all trying to limit the BFs, I try to offer her more milk and am not trying to keep scheduled feeds at all. This is just the way she is. She empties one or sometimes both sides during the BF. But is not interested in having more frequent feeds. I do offer her the breasts for comfort feeding. Like, just now she bumped her head, started crying and I offered her BF. She immediately felt better, stopped crying but didn't really drink any milk. Also, before starting the solids, she used to pass stools once every 2-3 days. Now the bowel movements are once a day and they are very soft, sticky (sorry) but not waterish. Wonder if that is alright or does she need to pass more and have more watery consistency. Am not giving her any drinks except for water sips if she goes out in the heat or during the meals. She does settle back to sleep during the night after 5 mins of snacking each time. Would love to hear from more mothers if this sounds ok. I am so not sure even though she is my second one. My elder one is a preschooler with very very bad eating habits- and I blame myself for that. So am particularly concerned about giving this baby the perfect start!
