I am new to Dubai and have a 9 month old. I am curious as to what other mums are doing with their little ones this month. I am struggling a bit with how to keep her amused and find it a bit restrictive not being able to eat or drink outside the apartment. Also I was wondering where can I find out about any playgroups starting after Ramadan. I know about Boogie Babies starting on 19 September at Dubai Marina Mall.

Hi malibumandy. I do recommend you come to the one on Sundays at the oasis center instead. There is also one that is on Tuesday at Mirdif City Center at 10 - 12 for toddler. They are in the Fun play area. I dont normally go to that one but will take my 2 and a half there this tuesday. Go on to the Mumcierge site and they have all sorts of activities on for toddlers eg. dubai drums, art and crafs, boogy babie ect. every tuesday. The one at MOE is mostly babies, but soon will be avail for older children as they are (opening) a play area at the coffee morning for the active ones :-) But think this will only happen after ramadan. http://www.mumcierge.ae/ There is also a webpage http://www.dubaikidz.biz/ Click on parents and you can see and join all kinds of playgroups xxx edited by babyangel on 18/08/2011

Sunday mornings Expat has a baby and toddler group on at oasis center from 10-12. You also get a free coffee and a snack to eat. your little one will love it! They have a soft play there. I am always there with my toddler and my 3 month old. Wednesday's Mumcierge Dubai has a coffee morning for mom's and babes. Its held at Sezzam between 10-12. If you send me your email i will be more than happy to pass on my phone number and if i hear about any other activities i will inform you. Good luck and its almost over!

Hi, Thanks Pentel - I have been going to the Monday meetings and have chatted with loads of mums. My little one has enjoyed interacting with the other babies. I think that the way to do this next year is to arrange to go back to the UK for a couple of weeks or go on holiday - that seems to be what most mums have done. I have now been to the aquarium at the Dubai Mall. I enjoyed it although, I think my little one enjoyed people watching more! I have also discovered Peekaboo which is nice when they are singing nursery rhymes and doing 'groove time'. Childrens City sounds promising so will look into this a bit further - thanks Schmoo.

11legs.. you're new to Dubai so you won't have made lots of friends yet to invite round for playdates etc as suggested so take yourself along to the Expat bumps and babes coffee morning.. [i'>ExpatBumps & Babes Coffee Morning Mondays during Ramadan 10.00am until 12.00pm Sezzam, Ground Floor, Mall of the Emirates, Ski Dubai end[/i'>.

Children's City in Creekside park is good for a morning or afternoon out. Malik Burger is open inside too and children can eat there without a problem. The Aquarium in Dubai Mall is good for a few hours distraction too. We are always here over the summer when all our friends flee to cooler climes and it is a bit mind numbingly dull for mommies, but survivable :) Lots of playdoh, painting, pasta necklaces, dress up, puppets, treasure hunts.....zzzz.....etc. Good luck, not long now :)

I hate it so much......I have a 3 yr old and a 15 month old and its been **** I think your DH's friends' collegue was refering to Modesh world. During Ramadan it is only open after 5 in the evening- but its a delight. Especially since it is not crowded if you go around 5. Lots of space for kiddies to run- some food was available too before 7 - I was amazed. It is at airport expo though- not WTC. We went there today from about 5:30 to 7:30 and it was lovely for the boys- totally not crowded like it usually is...

I've just arrived back from UK with my 3 year old and 9 month old and finding it tough already so would love to hear any ideas! The only friends we have here at the moment have just had babies, literally everyone else we know has left until end of August! I hadn't really appreciated how much our activities revolve around food and coffee (for me!). I've found the malls have a very odd atmosphere without the food places open. A colleague of my husband's has said that the World Trade Centre has been all set up for children but know nothing more...anyone heard about this?

So far have survived it with play dates with friends, a couple getaways thrown in, then more play dates planned. Next year.... escaping to home country for the month!

host a playgroup at your house, good way to meet people and socialise without worrying about the eating in public thing. BTW your LO can eat and drink in public, just not you. :)
