After my recent miscarriage I completely blamed myself and my age (40) however, I came to realise that SO many of my friends in various countries had also sadly miscarried first time round and not all at my age either. It is too easy to blame yourself particulalry when older and there is no denying that whilst I am now desperatley ttc again I am stressing myself out about the possibility of it happening again which I know will not help. It is a common and sad occurrence that often goes unspoken about for personal reasons which I fully respect. Personally I needed to talk about it and was glad of the support and the success stories following on from previous miscarriages. I am now 41 and not giving up hope. Dangerous blonde - people never cease to amaze me with their 'helpful comments'! I hope all is going well for you! ilovewine - so pleased for you - you give me hope on what is today a 'yucky' day! Congratulations on your precious little bundle! xxx

dangerous blonde - so sorry you had to go through that....I had a miscarriage almost 4 years ago but it was a missed miscarriage so found out at my 12 week scan that the foetus didn't develop. I feel lucky I didn't have to see anything or bleed etc but it was still hugely painful and DB is right - the love you feel is already so immense. Alot of people do say the wrong thing unfortunately but I do think the more open we are can only help as it's nothing to be ashamed of. When I had mine, so many friends came out of the woodwork to share with me that they had been through the same thing and I thought how sad that they hadn't shared this with me earlier.... It took me almost 3 years to conceive again but I know have the most beautiful DS who is turning one this Thursday :)

This sounds like an odd question but I am hearing more and more stories of women here having miscarriages or unable to fall pregnant for a long time and I am wondering if it has something to do with Dubai or is it merely because I am at the age where my peers are all married/long term relationships and I will hear such stories. bit of a sensitive issue really, not sure it's something many people want to talk about... Why not? People come on here and talk about this kind of thing all the time. It's a valid question I agree. I think if we talked about it more often (when we are ready) it may just remove the stigma attached to miscarriages or even the thought/ fear that "there is something wrong with me". I had 3 miscarriages over a period of 3 years. I couldnt bear the thought of falling pregnant immediately after for fear of another miscarriage hence the timeline. Of course, that didnt help because the following year i had another and the following year another. I was on the brink of depression and lost interest in the physical side of things too. If i had a support group or someone to talk to i would have been able to deal with it much better than i did. My family didnt know how to deal with it and i got the most awkward messages from people. There are very few people who even know about the third miscarriage for this very reason. I was tested for everything under the sun and all results came back negative ( a good thing). I am older (turn 40 this year) but that had nothing to do with it. Eventually i was again tested for blood clotting and was put on medication for preventative measures. I fell pregnant, was high risk all the way, and delivered a beautiful baby boy in January! Was it the meds or just this little one's perserverance? I dont know but im glad i didnt give up trying. The road was long and hard and very very sad but im better because of it. Congratulations I wish you and your baby a beautiful and healthy life together xxx

I think you'll find they are more common than you realise, it's just that many people don't want to talk about it. I think you also take more notice when you are TTC.

Miscarriages are so common that many hospitals and doctors don't even consider seeing pregnant women until they finish their first trimester. As common as miscarriages are, healthy pregnancies are much more common...:) edited by AnonDubai on 08/05/2012

They are very common. I would say more of my friends and cousins have had miscarriages than haven't (I was fortunate not to). I only became aware of how often they happen when I and those around me were TTC.

i only know one person who has had one and MIL lost her first so for me it isn't common and i do find it an uncomfortable thing to be discussing...sorry to those who think it's a valid subject.

When I had my two miscarriages, both in Switzerland, I was told that the rate of miscarriage generally was one in two pregnancies. Many of those would be such early miscarriages that they would go almost undiagnosed unless you were very aware of changes to your body, I believe. Good luck, TheMrs, try to relax and not worry about it. I know that's easier said than done.

Sensitive for some and helpful to others who feel or need to talk about it. I think it is very common, had my first miscarriage in 2003 not in Dubai.

From my understanding they are more common than you think, I have had friends / family who have all suffered, and all different ages, living in different countries etc ...

bit of a sensitive issue really, not sure it's something many people want to talk about... I agree...my husband and I are trying for a family at the moment and really struggling. Miscarriages are common everywhere - I don't think it's just Dubai.

Hi Glamorgirl, It is very common. I had 2 before conceiving and carrying a healthy baby to term and that was in Switzerland were the air is clear!! My Mom had 4 back in the day. Most of my friends have had them and they live all over the world. It's nature's process of elimination. HTH
