you moved them through to their cot in their own room? Did they sleep better or worse than a moses basket in your room?

I moved DD at 8 weeks because she outgrew her basket. The only person who cried that night was ME! She slept better and so did I but wow was I upset!

Thanks for all the responses. I think im going to make up her cot today and put her in it tonight in her own room. I like the idea of the sofa bed in her room, we have a futon in there so she can start the night off herself then when its feeding time i'll go through and spend the rest of the night in there. Well, ill see how it goes anyway. Thanks again ladies

Both of mine were about 6 weeks old and slept fine. In these days, the position for sleep was on their sides but things have changed and will probably continue to do so. Didn't have baby alarms either and those who did were thought of as paranoid LOL!!! :)

Our is I guess a funny case. So DH could get sleep as he was working I slept with DS in his room on the sofa bed. I actually found the sofa bed more comfortable in the end then DH and I's bed!! DS was first in his Bugaboo bassinet which I wanted him to get used to for when we travelled. When we came home from his "tour" to meet the relatives in the UK & Canada at about 13 weeks he was in the bassinet for a couple of nights and then in his cot. Just so it wasn't a sudden change. But he has always been in his own room. I was just me who moved out. DH used to start out the night with us then if he woke up would go to our room. On the weekends he would visit DS and I - LoL. So DS has always been in his own room. Just another way of doing it I guess. Make it easy for me just to move out.

If I recall slept in a moses till they were about 5 weeks old, then straight to cot, and moved them to their own room at 6months.

Seven months, when I stopped BF. There was no way I was trudging through to another room to feed him in the night!

5th night for our little miss. No change in her sleep as she is a little trooper, but our sleep improved as we weren't constantly stressed about any teeny tiny sound we'd make for fear of waking her.

6weeks old! I slept better, DD slept tons better (infect through the night instantly, waking only for one feed at 2/3am) and DH got a full 8hrs sleep in! We planned to put her in her own room immediately when we came from hospital however, she had bad esophageal reflux and was very colicky the first few weeks, so having her in arms length from me helped a great deal during the night! If you are breastfeeding or plan to, then having them beside you helps a great deal as no one can help you with the feeds during the night and it just makes it easier for Mum!

DS 1 was in with us (mixed co sleeping and sleeping in a moses basket beside the bed) for 6 months. He had bad reflux so I wanted him nearby. We loved it. Moved him out at 6 months but after travelling and having guests which meant sharing a room - he got so used to it and at 3 years he is STILL in with us ;-) We love it! DS2 was in a basket beside the bed until 3 months. He much prefers being on his own in his own room. Each baby is different and so is every parent. Do what you feel works for you as a family...obviously taking safety precautions into account.

From the day they came home from hospital! I know - it sounds harsh, but I cannot sleep when they're in the same room as me. Their little noises (although soothing for some) keep me awake and I get no sleep. I have an apnoea baby monitor that reassures me re : SIDS, but for my sanity - they're in their own room.

DS1 slept in our room until he was just over a year. DD was very different! She didn't like her moses basket and was such a light sleeper that moving her into her own room after a couple of months was the sensible option for us. We kept both doors open and had the baby monitor on too but I would often wake in a mild panic and rush into her room to check if she was breathing ok!!

My DD was just shy of 3 months when we moved her to her own room. I felt that her sleep was being disturbed by us and my DH's loud snoring. Once we moved her, she really did sleep so much better. We also had the Angel Care Monitor. It gave us peace of mind.

my baby is only 5 weeks old but i am considering moving her for 2 reasons 1) my DH snores VERY loud and 2) she is almost looking too big for her moses basket already. Of course im reading all the horror storys online and im quite nervous about it due to her age.. :-s there are always horror stories about just about anything, but it's about you feeling comfortable with the risks. I'd say 5 weeks is really quite early to move into a different room (although I have friends who did it earlier!), but have you looked to fitting a cot in your room - could it fit? In reality, the main thing is the risk of SIDS ("cot death") and no one really knows why it happens... but they've identified situations where it's more frequent, namely if a parent smokes (something horrendous like 8/10 cases are in families where at least one of the parents smoke in the presence of the child), the child is too hot and the child is in its own room. The theory that having the child in your own room as a preventative measure comes from the idea that SIDS is all down to the child randomly stopping breathing, and so having the parents asleep in proximity subconsciously regulates the baby's own breathing... so it keeps going.

DS slept fine in our room in his moses, until he turned 4 weeks old. Around that time he started growing out of it (he's a tall baby) and I used to find him in the morning with his little legs dangling out! That scared me so I moved him into his cot in his room and he has been sleeping there ever since. I think I may have left him with us longer if he hand't grown out of his moses basket. I didn't sleep a wink the first night when I moved him into his cot in his room on his own but he was just fine and slept through. He is now 5.5 months and I struggle sleeping with him in the same room, he makes all these little grunting noises and shuffles so much it wakes me up:)

both of mine were in their cot in our room - never a moses basket... DD I moved when she was 5.5 months (we were waking eachother up, so slept better for the move) and DS got moved when he finally slept through the night at 11 months (he was moving into DD's room, so it would have been unfair to do so while he was still waking for night feed) I guess they both sleep better - I certainly do!
